Cover Letter

Dear Sir or Madam:

I have a Masters in Psychology from Walden University (2002). Prior to this, I earned an Associates degree in Liberal Arts from Brookdale Community College (1994) and a Bachelor's in Psychology from Monmouth University (1999).

Now, I am seeking a job position regarding designing / editing web pages, on-line teaching, proofreading, advocating for physically disabled children / young adults, entering data, or writing newsletters / articles.

Having a strong background in computer science has given me the skills to design a personal web page http://home.att.net/~ysinger/. I am proficient with HTML code, and have experience working with Javascript Code to permanently place midi / MP3 files and graphics (http://home.att.net/~ysinger/bannerysg.htm) on a site. I am also familiar with FTP and DOS commands.

Currently, I am teaching an Introduction to Psychology on-line course at Middlesex County College, New Jersey. My responsibilities include communicating with twenty-six students and the psychology chairman through E-mail, making class announcements on the CampusCruiser, teaching fourteen textbook chapters [Wood, S. E., Wood, E. G., & Boyd, D. (2006). Mastering the world of psychology. (2nd ed.). Boston, Massachusetts: Pearson Education.], presenting lessons as PowerPoint slide shows, admiinistering and grading two examinations, assigning weekly discussion questions and five page research papers, informing students of their progress, and submitting grades to the Registrar Office. For additional information, please read the Monmouth University Magazine’s and Star Ledger’s articles by clicking on these links http://home.att.net/~ysinger/YVONNE_SINGER.PDF and http://home.att.net/~ysinger/slartps.htm.

Previously, I was an independent contractor for Monmouth Housing Alliance (http://www.housingall.com/). My website maintenance functions were updating general information as requested, maintaining a bulletin board and notifying staff of the need for response, responding to outside requests for links, insuring banners and ads are current and that events haven't expired, and changing and updating technology and language as appropriate. For more information, see recommendation letters.

In addition, I am editor of the disability directory (http://open-site.org/Society/Disabilities/) located on the Open Site - The Open Encyclopedia Project (http://open-site.org/). Plus, I was the webmaster for Dr. Pharra DeWindt’s DLA/DVTI Project Homepage (http://www.dla-dvti.org/). I also help maintain the EdIndex, a web portal to K-12 education resources managed by Bernie Poole, Associate Professor of Education at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. This portal may be reviewed at the following URL: (http://www.pitt.edu/~poole/edmenu.html). For more information, see recommendation letters.

One of several tasks I have been responsible for on this latter website has been writing reflections based on quotes from famous people in Poole’s Archive of Thoughts for Teachers, located on the web at http://www.pitt.edu/~poole/ARCHIVE.HTML. Our goal is to have a Thought and accompanying Reflection for each day of the K-12 school year--180 in all. If there is interest, we plan to publish this in hard copy as a motivational booklet for K-12 teachers. For more information, see recommendation letters.

My writing skills have made my web site a glowing success. Two of my essays were published in a Canadian magazine entitled The Ability's Network, which were the following: YES, I DO EXIST!!! and Seeking a Post-Secondary Education. In addition, I had several of my writings published in Brookdale Community College's as well in Monmouth University's literary magazines and newspapers.

I am enclosing my resume. If you are interested in any of my skills, feel free to contact me at YSINGER@WORLDNET.ATT.NET. If you need additional information about my qualifications, you can contact my mentor, Bernard John Poole (Associate Professor of Education and Instructional Technology). He can be reached at tel: 814-269-2923, fax: 814-269-7084, or POOLE@PITT.EDU.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Yvonne Singer

Yvonne M. Singer

    Hi Yvonne,

I had nice conversations with Beverly from Merck -- and also an email from Ron Maturo a few weeks ago. They were both impressed with your dedication and your commitment to doing a good job.

The status for us is follows: To give you useful work, I need to have someone on the inside to be able to put the work together and support you with directions and answering questions. Problem is that I don't have anyone in production to do that right now. We are in a little bit of a flux -- we are hiring a new person to manage the production process and I hope things will get a little more structured.

Please keep in touch -- there may be an opportunity later on in the year.

    Greg

    Hi, Yvonne:

I have had your banner on my Great Disability Sites page for some now, and, because I'm impressed by the interactivity, diversity and accessibility of your site, I invite you to become a tell-us-your-story.com Affiliate.

That's a distinction limited to only to those sites I personally select as doing the best in helping those of us with and without disabilities see how much we have in common.

As an Affiliate, you can now place my special 400 x 50 banner on your site. This banner highlights *a new story every day* written by or about a person with a disability.

My special banner will tie your site's visitors into tell-us-your-story.com, the Internet's premier discussion forum for helping people with disabilities share their personal-experience stories about awareness, rights, inspiration.

In exchange, I will place your site's banner within the text of one of my forum's feature stories. I highlight each of my feature stories as "Today's Feature Story" on my home page once every 30 days.

Your banner will also continue to appear in my Linked-Banner Directory of Affiliate Sites.

In both cases, there's no cost or upkeep. I do the work.

I'm looking forward to working with you as an Affiliate.

    Hi Yvonne,

Tom Woska referred me to your webpage. I'd like to talk with you more about what kinds of writing you'd like to do for the adaptz.com website. One thing I've wanted to do is have a "correspondent from college" -- a college student with a disability who could write a regular column about his or her experiences. You've already written some about your college life; if you are still in school, maybe that's something you could do over the course of the school year. We could talk about how often you would write a column for us -- I'm open to almost any schedule, as long as it is regular. We can also pay you something -- not a lot, but something.

    What do you think?

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Warm regards,

    Kim Schive

Hi Yvonne. I read over your note below. Thank you for providing the details and information that you have. I also scanned your web site. You really provide a lot of information, and many useful and interesting links. This is helpful and interesting.

I would encourage you to continue to pursue your educational and professional goals. Walden University, and other institutions that offer distance learning courses and degrees, has opened up an entire market of persons who otherwise would not and could not seek viable post-secondary educational options. Many of the persons who come to Walden do so because of busy personal and professional lives. However, as with yourself there are a number of qualified and interested individuals who can and will also benefit from Walden's distance delivered degree programs.

I see that several counselors from Walden have responded to some of your questions and comments already. Remember that the Walden master's (M.S.) degree in Psychology does not require any on-campus components to earn the degree in full. The exception are the two "Intelligence and Personality Testing" online courses that include a three week summer residency at Indiana University in Bloomington. These courses again are not required to earn the full MS degree. However, we require these, either here at Walden or at another regionally accredited approved institution, if you seek admission to one of the licensure-based Psychology PhD specializations (ie, Clincal or Counseling PhD options).

Your plans to enter the Organizational Psychology program sound excellent. Per my most recent e-mail (today, 10/12/99), consider several factors when deciding which program to pursue: your professional and educational goals; which option(s) will best meet your needs and interests; preparation and qualifications for the stated program; employment trends and outlook (which can be found at the US Department of Labor web site); and other personal and professional variables.

A plan of action for you immediately may be to volunteer, or possibly work, with the young adult and business population that most interests you. This can provide the needed experience for meeting the admission criteria, and better help you define what it is you wish to do once the degree(s) are earned. Furthermore it establishes you as a respected individual in the field, and connects you to persons who can act as mentors and future reference sources.

I am impressed with the extensiveness of your web pages. You really provide much information. Thank you as well for linking Walden's web site to your's - good plug for us. Did you really learn to write web pages/HTML through the Internet? Amazing. Considering your interest in and obvious capabilities in writing web pages and other information, maybe you should research the possibilities of writing - contract or otherwise - for publications that target the populations in which you are interested (ie, disabled young persons, etc.). You have the interest; you have as well a personal exposure to the special needs and concerns of these persons; and you have the skills. Just a thought.

Hope this helps Yvonne. If you need anything let me know and I hope to help you through the application process for Walden - the application deadline is January 1, 2000 for March quarter 2000. Now is the time to start sending in your application and materials.

    Have a great day.

    Hi Yvonne

I received your resume that was sent to David Clark and forwarded to me. CAST does not have any openings that take advantage of your skills currently. I will keep your resume on file for future consideration if an opportunity were to emerge.

A service that CAST provides is Bobby which you may want to know about. Bobby is a web-based tool that analyzes web pages for their accessibility to people with disabilities. CAST offers Bobby as a free public service in order to further its mission to expand opportunities for people with disabilities through the innovative uses of computer technology.

To analyze your web site, type in the URL of the page that you want Bobby to examine and click Submit. Bobby will display a report indicating any accessibility and/or browser compatibility errors found on the page. Once your site receives a Bobby Approved rating, you are entitled to display a Bobby Approved icon on your site. Feel free to add Bobby as a resource to your web page.

    HI!

Wonderful stuff! I think you and Walden are a perfect match! Your commitment to social change expressed in your Professional Goals fits perfectly with the mission of Walden University. Add to that your scholarly work as an undergraduate (quite impressive) and you certainly seem capable of meeting the high standards of the Walden graduate programs.

On a personal note, I too am a big fan of Carl Rogers. In High School I was first drawn to Freud, but my brother gave me a Rogers' book for Christmas and I was convinced that his approach was the healthier of the two. While I gave up pursuing a career in psychology (Inidana University, my alma mater, was very heavy into Skinner and so I wasn't interested in pursuing a psychology degree there) I still find Rogers' approach and work to be very enlightening and a good formula for relationship building.

I'm still working on contacting faculty to get a better idea of the expectations of the Walden master's programs. I will report to you my findings and encourage faculty to contact you directly in hopes of giving you a better idea of what lies ahead for you at Walden.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Jay

    Good morning Yvonne,

Thank you for your interest in Walden University, Inc. Your background and experience is quite impressive. We do conduct a summer session at the University of Indiana in Bloomington each year. This session often brings some challenges as it relates to our ability to work with our physically challenged students. We are currently evaluating ways in which to streamline our processes and at the same time offer the assistance necessary to accommodate all of the Walden students who participate in this important exercise.

Your experience may be just what we're looking for. I have taken the liberty of forwarding the information you provided to the appropriate parties responsible for coordinating the summer session. We will be in contact if there appears to be an opportunity that would be advantageous to both you and Walden University.

Once again, thank you for your interest and best of luck to you as you continue your education with Walden.

    Dear Yvonne,

Attached to the end of this email is a media release I have just sent to a number of media organisations around Australia regarding a proposal to establish group Internet facilities for disabled poets and writers with the assistance of a grant from the Queensland Regional Arts Development Fund and the Warwick Shire Council. Having experienced first hand the difficulties faced by a disabled poet and writer in becoming "established" I believe such a facility might prove to be of great benefit to those poets and writers like myself who are physically confined by a disability - any disability. However before I can proceed with this concept I need to establish contact with other disabled poets and writers around the nation and indeed around the World (why think small).

I thank you in anticipation of any assistance or involvement you may be able to provide. Please note my preferred model of structure at present is an umbrella association of other disabled writer groups and websites.

    Yours sincerely,
    D.J. Ludlow.

    Hi Yvonne,

Your website and resume are very impressive. I loved some of the effects [the 'circular marquee']. Creativity is certainly a forte. After seeing what you are capable of doing, you would probably be wasting your time with us...but the offer is still open.

Working for the 'Spider' at first would be a part time proposition. We are a three person outfit. I am the boss [ha!]. Mary Grasso is my tech and does some web designing. Sue Kuhlman is our sales person. Presently we have only about 30 clients. Of those 30, we have produced websites for 8 of them. The others are maintenance contracts [sigh].

Most of our business is centered on the South Jersey Shore. Of course this time of year is slow, because the tourist trade is not here. After tax time, we believe that many of the small businesses will be ready to talk and go web. In other, we're lucky to get 2 jobs a month during the winter, and hope to do a LOT better come April.

How it would work is: we would make the sale, do the photography, then turn everything over to you. Hopefully, in a week or two, you could produce a web for us. Sue handles the domain registration and web-hosting for us. Pay would be the same as we all make: $300.00 per web produced. We have no benefits [yet] and I don't honestly know if we will grow or go under. We are TRYING to grow.

If you're still interested, you know how to contact me.

I just came back from looking over some of your sites and I AM IMPRESSED! God Bless you for being what you are and for your goals and objectives. I would like to publish a special about you and your projects and ask, if I may, if you can tell me what you think would be the best, OR, write something for me to put on my site. If you have some goal or objective you wish to reach and there are some people who are standing in the way, or simply are not acting to help you, then let me know what I can possibly do, other than financial help.

As a 50% service-connected veteran I do not have the funds to help you with this, but I do have a Domain and perhaps maybe I can help in some small way. I greatly admire your dedication and the things you have put on the Internet. Your determination is great!

So, let me know when time permits and God Bless you on all your journeys. I pray God will help you to achieve that which you desire.

    Hi Yvonne,

Thank you for sending me the Ananova article. It's a cold cold world out there. I'd like to ask you why you are so down on home-based businesses? Have you tried any yourself? Have you had a bad experience?

I myself survived a fatal car accident in 1986. All my breaks healed, however I did suffer from a concussion and still do today. I'm one of the luckier ones though and can hide my problem enough to get a job without anyone ever knowing my secret. It is not easy however and I am terrified every time I must look for another job, which seems to happen every 3-7 yrs. I started looking for other options and trying a home-based business sounded great to me. I've been an an independent distributor for Neways for 17 months now and really enjoy it. I plan to keep building it so I can live off the income one day. The ShopN2000.com web mall was something I was looking at as another business but have decided not to participate. The company who owns it allows online casinos to advertise on the site and I am opposed to gambling in any form and most certainly do not want to contribute in promoting it.

I think your plans of being a pshycologist for the physically disabled youth is a good one. Do you see any obstacles that would prevent you from attaining that goal? I checked out some of your links about the abuse that is so prevalent and am sickened by it. What can be done to stop it... There is a need for a loving, understanding shoulder out there.

    Yvonne,

Dr. Burnham forwarded your email to me for consideration and response. Congratulations on the completion of your Master's degree!

Regarding your interest in teaching on-line courses at Brookdale, generally such courses are developed by full-time faculty members who are familiar with the required course content and interested in teaching in an asynchronous modality. Adjuncts (part-time faculty) would be assigned only when demand requires opening more sections than the full-time faculty are available to teach. At this time, on-line Psychology courses have not been offered through BCC. Nevertheless, I have spoken to both the department chairperson and the Manager of Distance Education Applications and both have asked that I forward your resume to them for possible course development support.

Yvonne, before I forward your email, I would like to suggest that you re-send your resume directly to me. In the transmission I received from Dr. Burnham, your resume was intermingled with formatting commands. Once I receive a "clean" copy, I will forward it on.

In addition to sending your resume to appropriate faculty and administrators at Brookdale, I would be happy to forward your resume to my colleagues at the other New Jersey community colleges. Just let me know if you would like me to make that connection for you.

Thank you for your interest in employment at Brookdale. I hope that the follow-up contacts will result in an opportunity for you here or at another community college.

    Hi Yvonne,

I remember meeting you while you were a student here! Glad to hear how you progressed educationally.

I heard about your interest in teaching an on-line Psychology Course. Unfortunately, at the present time we do not offer such a course. We have been discussing the development of an on-line Psychology course within the department, however, contractually, the teaching of that course must first be offered to a full-time faculty member before an adjunct faculty member could be offered the opportunity. I have heard of other colleges that offer an on-line course in Psychology and hopefully one of them might be interested in your services.

    Yvonne,

I doubt that I have real job for you this summer, but there might be a slim chance.

I have to admit to being impressed with the brazenness of your self-promotion and promotion of what you see to be the interests of disabled folks everywhere. And with your website, which I mucked around on, altho I did not go thru it all.

I was actually not all that surprised about your thesis results (I read the abstract, not the whole thing). If you go to http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~jussim/life.html and http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~jussim/inprogress.html you will get some sense why I was not all that surprised.

Indeed, I would suggest that you try to publish your thesis in a scholarly journal (you won't make any money on it, but it is a good way to get the research out there). In your shoes, I would probably send it to Journal of Applied Social Psychology (after making some revisions and tightening up the writing).

I do not have any grant money so could not hire you to do any work for me. I do have tons of data that could be analyzed, which you could do at your leisure, but all I could offer you on that would be possible co-authorship. But even there, you would need pretty strong stat skills (familiar with SPSS, HLM, LISREL, multiple regression, repeated measures, and the like?). The stuff is on stereotypes, but usually stuff on race or ethnic stereotypes. I could imagine being interested in doing something on stereotypes/prej towards the disabled, but not for a while -- too much old stuff to clear out first.

On the other hand, I am overseeing an attempt to upgrade the Psychology Dept's Graduate web site. Our first step, still in progress, is to revise the basic organization of the pages, and then add some informational and self-promotional content. After that, we might be interested in somebody who could snazz and jazz up the pages. I will let you know if and when we get to that point.

Are you looking for just summer work, or also stuff during the regular academic year (we may not complete our own revisions till mid- or late-summer)?

Yvonne, you came to my attention through the Admissions Office at Capella University. I understand that you just graduated from the MS psychology program at Walden University. I am curious why you haven't sought the guidance of your faculty and program director at Walden. You probably don't know this, but I created the Division of Psychology at Walden in 1994 and served as the head of the PhD program until I left in 1998 to create the School of Psychology at Capella University. In any case, I encourage you to seek the guidance and assistance of your graduate faculty and program director in your job search.

Regarding why community and four year colleges are not picking up on your application, I suspect it is due to your lack of teaching experience at the college level. Your best bet is to seek an adjunct appointment at one of the many online university's to teach undergraduate courses. With that experience, I suspect that community colleges offering online courses will be interested in you as an adjunct instructor. Very few online psychology programs hire full-time faculty at the present time and when they do, they are looking for doctoral level psychologists.

Several of the online undergraduate programs you might look up on the web are the University of Phoenix, Webster University, Chapman University, Regents University, Liberty University, and Vermont College. These schools and others also offer MS degree programs. An excellent source to identify distance learning and online schools is John Bear's book on nontraditional schools. Nearly every bookstore carries this book.

I wish you much success in your search, it took most of my graduate students about 6 months to find their first position, so don't be discouraged.

    Best wishes,
Brian Austin, Senior Core Faculty, Capella University.

Yvonne, thanks for sening me your updated resume, and congratulations on your graduation from Walden! Way to go!

Have you ever seen the movie The Graduate? In it a father's friend pulls young, freshly graduated Ben (Dustin Hoffman) aside and offers him one word of advice: "Plastics."

The word I hear frequently in disability circles is: "Government." Government agencies are increasingly feeling pressure to hire more people with disabilities, and once hired they offer great security. However, their applications are often very finicky, and you must fill them out and include all required items to be considered. But from my own experience, it's an area I'd recommend you consider. My wife works for the Department of Agriculture, and they have a number of employees with varied disabilities, including two new hires from Gallaudet University who are Deaf.

In reading the resume, and cover letter, I found myself saying, "This woman deserves to be hired!" And you do. Unfortunately, though, employers generally do not care how much we deserve a job. They care about one thing: what can we bring them?

I urge you to consider revising your resume to focus on your skills (web page design, writing, etc.) Since you don't have extensive work experience, skills are the most important thing you need to share with a potential employer. Next would come education, then employment...

I can't offer to do so right away, but if it would be helpful to you I could help you revise your resume to make it more competitive.

What I especially want to brainstorm on, though, is what kind of jobs might see your disability as an ADVANTAGE. Just like FDR was a better president for having had polio, some business will be lucky to get you because of the parts of your person that are stronger, better, more determined, etc. as a result of your disability experience.

N.O.D. is not a direct service organization, so we can't help people find jobs generally; and I'm not a career counselor myself; but I am going to keep an eye out for any relevant opportunities because I think you exemplify our slogan, "It's Ability, Not Disability that Matters." And that has to be the case in the working world.

Best of luck and do let me know if you want me to work over your resume.

Currently we don't have any open positions. We are a small office and do not employ any psychologists or students here. We have had interns in the past, but we recently filled that position with a part timer. I've really given you all the resource information that I was able to uncover. While I thought you may have made some of these type of contacts in the past, I was told these organizations might advocate for someone like yourself with regard to employment.

You seem to be well educated and there are things you can do with a masters in psychology even if that might be research. I also know that even under the best of circumstances, the job market is extremely tight. I'll see if I might be able to uncover some other opportunities for you.

My name is Carl Brahe, President of Technos America. We are manufacturers of assistive technology products. http://www.mctos.com

When I earned my MA in psychology I found that it qualified me for jobs that paid upwards of $10/hr, less than a dishwasher or housekeeper. It feels like a terrible betrayal to work so hard and pay so much to end up worth less in the job market than when you started. It shows a lack of value of people's emotional health, even though physical, social and spiritual health depend on emotional health.

The point of my email is that we are very interested in employing people with disabilities. We are a small company struggling for survival since the new administration has shifted the governmental and societal focus from creating and healing to war and destruction. The only thing I can offer is commission sales. It is fine if you work totally using email.

Check out our website. There is an article from Good Housekeeping about us you might find interesting. It's link is under People at Technos.

Perhaps in the future when we have income again we could talk about you taking over the website. I do it all myself these days and being self taught, sometimes it consumes a lot more time than I can budget for it. It seems like it is a full time job.

I'm VP of a company that's working to make businesses and polling places more accessible to people with disabilities. I wish we had the success, money, and business plans to be hiring web designers and people with your skills, but we don't (at least right now).

What we do need is people to help sell our product, the BigBell, a wireless alert system to make doors more accessible. Unlike power doors, which can cost many thousands of dollars, BigBell retails for $99 -- something that anyone can afford. We are looking for motivated people to help us sell the product. There aren't any parameters -- just a staight 25% commission on sales. In any case, I know this isn't quite your background, but I'd love to talk with you sometime. Yvonne,

I am very happy with the quality of your work. To put it in simple terms, I think its excellent. So, feel free to make any suggestions at any time and I will guide thru the process as to what we can or can not do. Remember, when you think of this website look at it from two angles. First as an individual with a disability and second from the point of view of Monmouth County Government. We want to offer the general public as much information as possible about resources for people with disabilities in Monmouth County and in New Jersey as well. That should be the primary focus of the site. As far as I am concerned I think we are on the right track. I have to discuss the site with Alex and with my Director before we can announce it to the general public. However, I think that you have done a wonderful job in a very short period of time. I think this is just the beginning of a very productive work relationship. One that I hope will benefit primarily individuals with disabilities.

This coming Monday, December 16th I am having lunch with a good friend of mine, Paul Wichansky (http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~pstuart/personal.html). Paul is an excellent web/graphic designer and he is also a Ph.D candidate at Rutgers University. I will ask him for input in the development of our website, and see if he can develop some graphics depending on his busy work schedule. I will keep you inform.

    Have a Nice Weekend!

    Luis

PS I forgot to tell you. My friend Paul has Cerebral Palsy, but as he always tell me, he took the dis- from disability a long time ago.

I have been a director of the Monmouth County Office on Disabilities either as a volunteer for 9 years or as a paid person to the present.

I have seen many changes both in law and attitudes by the public. I sometimes become discouraged by our progress as disabled Americans. Many, many more of us should be able to have employment and homes or apartments. Transportation still has some gaps in our ability to use public transportation, but its getting better than the year I started 1979.

I still have not lost my excitement when I see folks with disabilities accepting challenges that make me feel great about this office and most of all, the opportunity we give our friends to show their accomplishments. Tune in to our new web site and view the accomplishments of my friend Yvonne, who in my eyes has made it to the big leagues; what a future she has, I’m proud to know her and her family.

Over the years many of my disabled friends have taken on the challenges a disability can bring and have moved us forward to the present. Together we will make strides and the world will be a better place for those of us who are physically and mentally challenged to fulfill our personal goals and desires for the future.

May the year 2003 bring these wishes to you, and may we do this together.

The purpose of this course is to enhance and broaden students¹ searching and evaluation skills, particularly in the online information environment.

Yvonne performed all coursework in a thorough and professional manner, and demonstrated tenacity and strong self-motivation in doing so. She finished required assignments ahead of schedule, and received an A in the course.

I enjoyed working with Yvonne, and found her to be both an interested and interesting student, anxious to learn and to achieve.

    Sincerely,

    Kit Keller

    Hi Yvonne:

Yes, I was very impressed with what you have done with your life so far. And yes, I want to accept your offer to work with us. I'm glad you found us.

The thing is, what would we ask you to work on? I like your attitude and expressions on empowerment.

Perhaps you could review our entire website content and recommend improvements.

I'd really like the ability to get as much of our stuff on Google, etc. as possible and to get new events or projects shown there - we have three to four projects to roll out that the extra publicity would boost immensely. Do you know an effective method to use to get us picked more often by webs such as Google?

I do have digital photos we could place on our web that would improve our Photos Section, but can't seem to do cropping that will hold in place to send to you or anyone. I know I'm not able to manipulate my software properly. Without the ability to crop, many of the photos would not portray what I want to emphasize. Attached is a photo that I would like to have on our website, but needs cropping. Ideas?

    Cordially, Bruce

    Dear Ms. Singer:

Thank you for your kind e-mail and offer to be a volunteer with us. Given that I am new to my position and am in the process of assessing our needs and processes, I am not prepared at this time to jump into many new projects until I can arrange my priorities. However, there may be some of our United Way partner agencies that could benefit from your abilities and willingness to volunteer. As such, you can expect to here from Christine Jagerburger of our staff to inquire of your willingness to have us share your name with those organizations.

I congratulate you on have pursued your education and on your many accomplishments to date. Your commitment to helping others is also very evident, and we are fortunate to have individuals such as yourself working and living in our community.
    Most sincerely,

    Philip A. Brown
