Being physically disabled certainly does not make one less of a person. Anything is possible as long as you have the 'YES, I CAN' attitude. Fighting the good fight may be extremely difficult at times. However, when you have accomplished your goals, you will realize that it was worthwhile to struggle climbing the steep ladder.
My own disability gets me down every now and then. Going blind slowly isn't exciting. Every now and then I start to morn the loss of a certain amount of independence. Then I come across people like the following that absolutely blow me away. And then I wonder ... gosh, if THEY can do all of this then so can I. The mind is amazing. The only linitations are the ones we put on ourselves. I also have to mention here, there are all kinds of disabilities. The people mentioned here have physical disabilities. But, there are people who are physically fine and have disabled thinking holding them back! - Lesly T. Federici
Yvonne, I love that you have had the courage to tell your story on line. You see, I can kind of identify with your situation because I have CP, too. But, from what I have read your case is much more severe than mine. Still I understand your frustration though. I can be talking with people and, as soon as the subject of my disability comes into the conversation and, they realize that the reason I limp and fall down with nothing in front of me to trip over is because of my CP, they look at me as if I'm a leper. Or worse, they know that a lot of people with CP are mentally challenged and, begin to talk to me as if I am two years old. There are times when I want to yell, "Why does this make me so unacceptable to you!?" I really admire people like you. I really have no right to be frustrated. I know my CP could be so much worse than what it is. I would love to be able to talk to you by e-mail. I'm always looking for new friends. Also, I am a senior in high school and I am trying to get prepared for college but, I've run into some obstacles. Maybe, you could give me some advice; if you would be so kind. But, if you're to busy, I understand. - Rachel Ramsey
