WHITE CHRISTMAS

The song was first introduced in the 1942 musical Holiday Inn starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. Twelve years later Crosby did a semi-remake of the film - this time with Danny Kaye as his sidekick. I'm sure you are all familiar with the movie White Christmas.

Irving Berlin, the composer of the song, had doubts about it but Crosby assured him it was a winner. It's gone on to become the most performed holiday song in history according to the ASCAP.

There are lyrics to the song that Bing never recorded. They are included below in italics.

The sun is shining.
The grass is green.
The orange and palms trees sway.
There's never been such a day
In Beverly Hills, LA.
But it's December the 24th
And I'm longing to be up north.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know.
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write.
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write.
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white.
