HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS

Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas was first performed in the movie Meet Me in St. Louis in 1944. It was originally a much darker song urging hope for a better Christmas in the future. (Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow.) It was changed for Judy Garland.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas.
Let your heart be light.
From now on our troubles
Will be out of sight.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas.
Make the Yuletide gay.
From now on our troubles
will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
Happy, golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us,
Gather near to us once more.

Thru the years
We all will be together
If the fates allow.
Hang a shining star
Upon the highest bough,
And have yourself
A merry little Christmas now.
