Easy Sauerbraten

This recipe is so easy, you don't have to wait for special days to make it!
I know the combination of ingredients sounds strange but it really does come out very close to the real thing - without the five-day wait!

1 1/2 lbs. beef cubes (I cut them smaller than the traditional 1" than is normally called for. Just find it easier!)
1 tblsp. vegetable oil
2 envelopes brown gravy mix
4 cups water
2 tblsp. minced onion (You can use "real" onion or the dried variety. Adjust to taste.)
4 tblsp. red wine vinegar
4 tblsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. worchestershire sauce
2 - 5 bay leaves (Recipe says 2 but I like the flavor, so I always use 5.)

Brown the meat in hot oil; remove from pan.
Add gravy mixes and water to pan; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Stir in remaining ingredients. Return meat to pan; simmer 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaves. Serve over noodles or mashed potatoes.

Serves 6.
