My grandmother loved Rice Krispy Treats and we made a special batch for her every holiday. Here's a way to dress up the old standard. Of course, you can adapt it to suit different occasions!
1 (10.5 oz.) pkg. miniature marshmallows
1/4 cup butter or margarine
12 oz. whit candy coating, chopped
1/4 tsp. green food coloring
7 cups crispy rice cereal
vegetable oil cooking spray
white non-pareils to decorate
In a Dutch oven combine marshmallows and butter. Stirring frequently, cook over low heat until smooth. Add candy coating; stir until smooth. Turn off heat, leaving pan on burner. Tint green. Add cereal; stir until well coated. Spray a 3-3/4x4-1/4-inch tree-shaped plastic mold with cooking spray. Sprinkle non-pareils into mold. Press cereal mixture into mold. Rap mold on a hard surface to release tree. Repeat for remaining trees. Store in a single layer between sheets of waxed paper in an airtight container.
