X-ray Vision
After a dentist
pointed an x-ray tube directly at a patient's left eye, so that
the patient was forced to look straight into the open cone, the
dentist prolonged the exposure excessively. The x-ray machine did
not hum but sizzled as high energy was emitted from the tube
head.
While other symptoms developed, a schimmering square light appeared in the left eye. It was like a square sun. The memory of prolonged x-rays directed into his left eye prompted the patient to do research in dental radiology text books hoping to discover the cause of the unusual image.
The text stated that the
x-ray beam has a tiny focal spot which is projected as a
square(0.8mm x 0.8mm). All the concentrated radiation energy
appears at this point , something like the arc of an arc welder.
The square illuminated image in the left eye matched the square
of a projected focal spot.

Square Hole in Retina With his vision distorted by the square so that it was difficult to read or draw, this dental patient went to a retinologist. On the intake form the patient drew a square representing the visual image, explaining that the shape appeared after staring into a high energy beam source. Since doctors are defensive about x-rays, he avoided that term. The opthalmologist had the patient plot the square on a grid paper. Looking into the eye of the patient, the doctor exclaimed, "There it is!" The patient wondered what it was that the doctor saw. After a dye was injected into his arm for a photograph of the retina (angiogram), the patient found out what "it" was. "It" was a square hole matching the square in his vision and the square beam emitted from the focal spot. This was a true x-ray vision.
