Chapter 26: Special Relativity

In modern long-range navigation, the precise location and speed of the moving craft are continuously monitored and updated. With a modern system of navigation satellites called NAVSTAR, location and speed anywhere on Earth can now be determined to within about 16 m and 2 cm/s. However if relativity effects were not taken into account, speed could not be determined any closer than about 20 cm/s, which is unacceptable for modern navigation systems.

In this unit we will study the Theory of Special Relativity to find out its physical basis and to understand the types of predictions it allows us to make.
There are some interactive Physics simulations at the Visual Physics Index, and more applets dealing with Physics concepts can be found at Interactive Physics and Math with Java. You might also try the Treasure Trove it's a virtual encyclopedia !!!
