In 1996, I moved from Cincinnati Ohio to Flagstaff Arizona hoping to become a seasonal National Park Service Ranger. I reached that goal in 1998 working the April through September 1998 and 1999 summer season as a seasonal NPS Ranger at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in Skagway Alaska. My love of Alaska and history of about a century ago made this a great position to have.
With friends and family scattered throughout the States, I finally decided to open a web site to let folks see what I've been up to. In 1999, the NPS areas I intended to study intensively included the Western and Northern pioneer miner and all-around boom town inhabitant, Nellie Cashman, the subject of my auditorium presentation; to also become the park's interpretive resource on turn-of-the-century foods, particularly baking powder; and finally to become a resource at the NPS Visitor Center desk for the century-old and still operating narrow gauge railroad, the White Pass and Yukon Route, which also was the subject of my walking tour. Not being a train buff before, I searched the web and found many extremely knowledgeable people with their own web sites devoted to the WP&YR. These individuals took me under their wing, answered all my naive questions and were absolutely great in all respects. I quickly found that, even with little detailed knowledge of railroading, my five and a half month presence in Skagway gave me the opportunity to obtain photographs of the WP&YR that would be useful to others. The photos presented on the following pages are a sampling of these photos.
My White Pass & Yukon Route photos comprise a separate and always-growing web site. Since more visitors to my sites are arriving due to an interest in the railroad photos, I have spent more time with it than with this site. With time, I'd hope this site to have as many photographs.
This web site is actively being updated. Check it out often. Comments and suggestions are always welcome. Enjoy!

Check out what's happening on the community band scene in Flagstaff. This is also a great way for me to see what I'm missing while on the job Skagway Alaska. I still find time in the summer, though, for the Skagway Fourth of July Klondike Gold Rush Centennial Marching Band.

Really interested in moving to Flag? Here's the website maintained by the REALTOR who found me a home in 1996. What I really enjoy about this site is the interviews she's posted from her clients. Get the real scoop on Flagstaff here. See if you can find my comments.
Admittedly a quiet site much of the year, this is the place to visit in the autumn. Learn the history of TubaChristmas! This site not only tells the public where to find a performance nearby but is also for every tuba and euphonium player to obtain participant information. Here's a photo of the 1999 Flagstaff rehearsal at NAU.
