  Wrist Exercise 0 (shomen cut) This is the first wrist exercise. Used to build up strength & flexibility. Cut forward and back. The sword travels on the same plane.

  Wrist Exercise 1 (figure eight cut) Start with the sword pointed to the floor. Then cut diagonally up. Imagine cutting along the v-neck of your partner's gi.

  Wrist Exercise 2 (figure eight) Start with your sword resting on your right shoulder. Then cut diagonally down. Similar to wrist exercise 1. You can also start with the sword resting on your left shoulder.

  Wrist Exercise 3 (side to side) You can start from either side. After each sideways cut turn the palm in the opposite direction. Always cut with the blade.

  Shomen cut (front view) The shomen cut is the foundation of Kenjutsu, Aiki-Ken, & Aikido. Bring the sword up on the same vertical plane. Then cut down on the same vertical plane. As if you wanted to cut your partner in half exactly.

  Shomen cut (side view) Cut down as if throwing out a fishing line. Don't try to muscle the cut. Let the sword cut through your partner.

  Suburi 0 (sword exercise) This is the first suburi. At the same time cut shomen and slide forward. Continue to cut forward until you reach the end of the mat.

  Suburi 1 (sword exercise) Building on the first suburi. Cut & slide forward. Then cut & slide back. Continue as many times as you wish.
