  Chudan hanmi (middle stane) This is the most common stance. You point the tip of the sword at your partner's eyes. So that he can only see the tip. And not the length of the sword.

  Chudan hanmi (middle stane) Hold the sword in both hands turned in. Don't grip too tightly. Be relaxed and flexible.

  Gedan hanmi (lower stance) This stance is used to protect your lower body.

  Jodan hanmi (upper stance) Usually performed while stepping back into waki hanmi.

  Waki hanmi (side stance) Hide the length of the sword from your partner. He should only see the handle.

  Waki hanmi (side stance) You can cut up, down, and sideways without telegraphing.

  Yokomen blocking stance This is not a real stance. This is a block or parry position against angled or sideways cuts.

  Yokomen blocking stance The yokomen cut should glance off your blade.
