Rosanna was born in May 1855 in either GA or TN according to different census records. The 1850 and the 1860 census records for Ducktown, TN do not list Rosanna Clementine. The 1870 census does show however, a Clementine Ashworth, age 15, living with "Priville Stuart", a single women, age 45, that was a neighbor of the William Marr family and Jonathan in Ducktown TN. Relatives who knew Rosanna Clementine in the 1930's remember her referring to her family name of Ashworth. Information shows that Rosanna was a orphan from the Civil War period and Priville Stuart was her guardian. To support this assumption, a second Ashworth child was found living with another family in Ducktown. The Civil War disrupted and destroyed many family units creating many orphans including Rosanna Clementine Ashworth.
In March 2001 contact on the internet was made with researchers of the Stuart family and they confirmed that Rosanna Clementine's family name should be Ashworth. According to their research, Rosanna Clementine was born on 5 May 1855 to Dr. John Ashworth of Georgia and Delilah Stuart, daughter of Jacob Stuart and Nancy Brittian. Delilah Stuart Ashworth died about 1857 and left Dr. Ashworth with Rosanna and an older sister. Sometime before the Civil War, Dr. Ashworth asked his in-laws, the Stuarts, to assume care of his two children. The grandparents died a few years later and care of the children was awarded to their unmarried daughter whose name is shown on different documents as"Permelia" or "Priville" or " Asenith Paralee" Stuart. Rosanna and her Aunt by 1870 were found to live in Polk Co. TN. Her father remarried for a short time and then became embroiled in the Civil War. Even though he was living in Georgia, he chose to side with the Federal Government and he was awarded the rank of Colonel and became the Commander of 1st GA State Troops, (U.S.). His unit became involved in a fight at Bucktown, Gilmer Co. GA and he was captured on 5 Nov. 1864 and sent to the Confederate Prison at Raleigh, NC where he died of starvation in May 1865.
While no recorded have been found to substandiate their marriage, JJ and Rosanna must have become married about 1878 or 1879. By 1880, JJ and Rosanna were living in Anniston Al where they had their first child, William Monroe Marr born on Jan 2, 1880. While still in Alabama, Rosanna Clementine and JJ had a second child, Jessie Pauline Marr born in 1885. The next solid record found on JJ's family is the 1900 US Census that lists "John Mar" living in Jefferson Co., Alabama. Jefferson County which includes the big city of Birmingham which has several big steel mills and coal mines near by. Birmingham, Alabama is only about is 30 miles from Anniston where William Monroe Marr was born. The 1900 Census showed JJ birth's date as Nov. 1850 and that he had been married 22 years. This confirms that the JJ and Rosanna were married in 1878. "Clemmie" was given as his wife's name and she was born in May 1855. The 1900 census said she had 2 children and both were living and she was listed as being born in Tenn. Also included in this household was William M. Marr, a son born Jan 1880 and he was single. A statement was included that "father and son are coal miners and they rent a house".
One conclusion that can be drawn from 1900 census is that by 1900, Jessie Pauline had already married Sam Parrott and they had setup their own household. A living relative stated that Jessie had her first daughter in 1900 in Ala and her name was Anna Mae Parrott. Jessie must have married at about the age of 14 to Sam Parrott. Jessie and Sam moved and set up a home in Herrin Il and in 1907 they had a second daughter, Margaret Parrott. Several months after the Margaret's birth, Jessie died suddenly from what her family believes was a diabetic coma. Apparently Jessie always had a craving for candy and sweets.
Jonathan and Rosanna most likely moved to Herrin about 1902 and were united with Sam and Jessie because there is a picture taken about that time (shown below) of JJ, Rosanna, Jessie, Sam Parrott and daughter Anna Mae looks to be about 2 years old. Apparently after Jessie died in 1908, JJ and Clementine moved in with Sam Parrott so that Clementine could help take care of the two granddaughters. The US census of 1910 of Herrin Twp, Fordville, Williamson Co, Il showed Sam A. Parrott as the head of a household; as a widower, who was born in TN. He had two daughters, Anna M., 9 years old born in Al and a second daughter Willie, (Margaret) 2 years old born in Il. Also living in the house was Rosana C. Marr, 55 years old, married for 37 years who had 3 children and only one living. Rosanna was listed as being born in TN. Also living in the house was John J. Marr, age 60 and he was born in TN.
It is believed that JJ and Rosanna stayed with Sam Parrott for awhile. Then, later JJ and Rosanna took the two baby girls and moved, possibly to Colorado for a short period. Later Rosanna returned alone with the girls to Herrin Il. About 1918, JJ moved the Aberdeen Wash and he showed in the local registry as living with his son. He was remembered as having red hair as do many men with Scotch-Irish roots. In 1923 he died in Aberdeen and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Centralia, Wash where many of his son wife's family are interred. His his grave stone was put into place July 29, 1923 according to cemetery records.
Rosanna Clementine continued to live with Sam Parrott and raise her granddaughters at 716 North 16th street in Herrin Ill. Anna Mae married in 1916 to a George Brown and immediately had a child, Sara Jessie Brown. Later they had a second child, Eugene Brown. Margaret married in about 1925 to Herman Bargesser and Ruth Helen Bargesser was born in 1926.
Rosanna Clementine died in 1940 and is buried in Oakhills Cemetery, in Cook Co Il.
