Robert was a miner. Beginning in 1890, Robert worked for a number of different coal companies in a variety of jobs including miner, payroll clerk, storekeeper, foreman, machinist, and time keeper. According to Mildred, Robert was an alcoholic, and often lost his job when he went on a drinking binge. He was, however, determined to keep his family together after his wife died ,which he did (Jane says that their uncle George W. Hicks thought Robert should put the kids in an orphanage, but he would not).

In 1894 Robert attended the Wood's Business School (pay school). He was a Methodist, which according to his daughter Jane was the only denomination in Laflin at the time. She says that services were held in the school house by itinerant preachers.

Robert went to Binghamton to live with his daughter Mildred in the early 1930"s. They lived on State St. They later moved to a house on Mitchell Ave. in Binghamton, and then to an apartment on Theron St. in Johnson City owned by Mildred's cousin Jim. During the period when his son Ernest owned a restaurant, Robert would take the bus daily to the restaurant to help out Parents: John TAYLOR and Mary WITCHELL.

He was married to Frances HICKS on 17 Oct 1906.⁽⁸¹⁾⁽⁸²⁾ Robert met Frances while rooming at her mother's (Janet Hicks) boarding house. Children were: Mildred Abigail TAYLOR, Ernest TAYLOR, Jane Frances TAYLOR, John TAYLOR.

Ann THOMAS⁽³⁷⁾⁽³¹⁾⁽¹³²⁾ was born about 1831 in Blaenavon, Wales.⁽³¹⁾⁽³⁷⁾ In 1851, Ann was living with her parents and her husband, Charles Tovey, in Victoria Row. According to the Witchell family bible, Ann, Charles and their 4(?) children sailed for America on Oct. 15, 1854. Charles died on route (Oct 22, 1854) as did their daughter Elizabeth Jane (Oct. 28, 1854). Ann landed in America in Nov, 1854 with Ann, Richard, and Thomas Tovey. Ann obviously returned from America, because in 1861 she was living in Blaenavon in River Row with her mother Hanna, son Richard Tovey(age 10), and daughter Mary Jane Tovey (age 4). If her husband died in 1854, this last is clearly wrong. Ann is listed as a quilt maker on the 1861 census Parents: Richard THOMAS and Hanna UNKNOWN.

William married Frances Reed in 1877, so the presumption is that Julia died. I could not, however, find a death announcement for her in the Index to the Sacramento Bee, nor is she buried in the Frazer family plot, even though two children that predeceased her are buried there. It is also odd that the monument to these two children contains a fairly long but badly weathered inscription (i.e. mostly illegible) followed by the attribution "by their loving mother Julia Frazer."
