She was christened on 28 Jun 1810 in Inveresk with Musselburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.(138) In the 1841 Kelso census Henrietta and her son William Archibald are living with her parents.
She is using the last name Hobson, though Henry is not included in the household. Parents: Henry STOCKWELL and Isobel DOUGLAS.

She was married to William ARCHIBALD about 1831.(139) Marriage inferred from fact that William and Henrietta are listed as parents of William in Scottish Church records. Children were: William ARCHIBALD.

bullet Abigail TAYLOR was born between 11 Feb 1867 and 1869 in Blaenavon or Ystradyfodwg Wales.(51) (28)(17) (75)(143) (30) Mildred Taylor's 1996 notes give a birth date of 1869 and her 1997 notes say 2/11/1869. Russ Taylor's notes list Feb. 14, 1869 as Abigail's birth date. Her age given in the 1871 and 1881 censuses is consistent with the 1869 date. Her tombstone, however, has her birthdate as Feb. 14, 1867. Her place of birth in the 1871 census is listed as Blaenavon, while the 1881 census lists Ystradyfodwg. She died on 26 Jun 1906 in Avoca, PA. (28)(51) (17)(75) She was buried in Langcliffe Cemetary, Avoca, PA..(29) (17) Funeral services were held at the Avoca Primative Methodist church. Ernest was still in Pennsylvania looking for work when his cousin Jim noticed an opening for a cook at a restaurant called the Busy Bee on Main Street in Johnson City. Ernest came to Johnson City and took the job. Prior to going in the service (during WWII?), Ernest worked as Head Chef at a club at IBM. After returning from the service Ernest worked for IBM briefly (?), and then bought a small restaurant in Binghamton. He did not have enough business and had to sell the restaurant (sometime in the 1950's I would guess). He then went to work as a chef at the county jail.

Although he did not finish high school, Ernest earned his GED. Parents: Robert Witchell TAYLOR and Frances HICKS.

bulletFrank W. TAYLOR (Private). Parents: James Ellsworth TAYLOR and Ruth SHOVER?.

bullet Hanna Maria TAYLOR was born between 23 May 1864 and 1867 in Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, Wales.(28) (51)(30) Although the family bible places Hanna's birth in 1864 (Mildred Taylor's notes, Fall 1996), this would be before her parent's marriage. Based on the 1871 census, she was born in 1867, and this is the date given in Russ Taylor's notes. In a phone conversation, Mildred Taylor said the date in the bible looked like an afterthought. Place of birth is that given in 1871 census.
She died on 20 Dec 1874 in Ystradyfodwg, Glamorgan, Wales. (51)(28) (75)(30) Note on pg. 9 of Mildred's 1996 notes, and a note in Mildred's handwritting on Russ Taylor's letter give 1874 date. Mildred's 1997 notes confirm Dec. 20 1874 date. Place of death is base on the fact that Hanna appears on the 1871 Ystradyfodwg census. Parents: John TAYLOR and Mary WITCHELL .

bulletJohn TAYLOR (147)(148) (12) (149)(150) (151)(143) (152)(37) (31)(30) was born about 1843 in Blaenavon, Monmouthshire, Wales.(75) (17)(149) (147) (12)(150) (151)(143) (31)(37) (30) There is a great deal of conflicting information regarding John's date and place of birth. Documents from Wales (four censuses and a marriage liscence) place his birth between 1842 and 1844, and in three Welsh censuses his birth place is listed as Blaenavon. Once in the U.S. he seems to have added about 10 years to his age (on censuses, family bible, death certificate), and is more apt to give England as his place of birth. I think the Welsh data is more likely to be correct. He died on 9 Apr 1916 in Avoca, PA. (75)(149) Although Mildred in her 1997 notes says the family bible gives 4/9/1918 as the date of death, the date on the death certificate is 4/9/1916. Cause of death was bronchial asthma. A contributing factor was mitral regurgitation (?). He was buried in Langcliffe Cemetary, Avoca, PA..(148) (17) In 1851, at the age of 9, John was living in River Row, Blaenavon with his family and was already working as an ironstone miner. In 1861 he was listed as a coal miner on the census and as a collier on his 1865 marriage license. John and Mary may have had one or two children before leaving Blaenavon. By 1871 they are living in a cottage at Penyranglyn, parish of Ystradyfodwg, Glomorgan, Wales, where John is again listed as a collier. In the 1881 Ystradyfodwg census and in a 1880 Commercial Directory for that area John is listed as a hairdresser. A 1998 phone conversation with Mildred Taylor confirmed that John had been a barber in Wales and had hoped to continue as one in the U.S. The 1881 census shows John and family living at 40 Gwendoline Street. Mildred had in her possession a badly deteriorating proposed plan of an "out house" to John Taylor on Gwendoline St., Treherbert. This "out house" included a parlor, kitchen, back kitchen, garden, and probably two upstairs rooms (bedrooms?). The Taylors emigrated from Wales via NY. (see Russ Taylor's summary) According to Mildred, John and the oldest child (Abigail) came first to Dupont, Pa. with the others following later. On the 1910 census, John Taylor lists 1883 as the year he came from Wales. This is consistent with the ages of the children in a family photo probably taken soon after their arrival. At that time, Dupont was called Heidelberg, and the photo suggests that the family lived in an area of town (or a street) called Florence Patch. After Dupont, the family settled in Avoca. John was granted US citizenship on 10/7/1892 in Luzerne Co., PA. In 1900 John lived on Collins St. in Pittston Township with his wife, sons Joseph and Robert, and daughter Mary Jane. After his wife's death in 1902 John lived with his daughter Mary Jane Llewellyn and her family on South Grove Street (either 21 or 211 Grove), Avoca. In the 1910 census he is listed as a laborer doing odd jobs.

Obituary indicates he was an active member of the Avoca Primitive Methodist Church. Parents: John TAYLOR and Mary Ann VIPON.

He was married to Mary WITCHELL on 15 Jul 1865 in Llanfoist Parish, Monmouth Co., Wales (Blaenavon). (147) Children were: Hanna Maria TAYLOR, Abigail TAYLOR, Joseph TAYLOR , Mary Jane TAYLOR, Robert Witchell TAYLOR, Mary Jane TAYLOR.

bullet John TAYLOR(31) (37) was born about 1810 in Paulton, Sommerset, England. (31)(37) 1851 Blaenavon census indicates John born in 1811 in Somerset. 1861 census shows him born in 1809 in Paulton, Somerset. He died between 1861 and 1871 in Blaenavon, Wales. (31)(130) John appears on the 1861 census. On the 1871 census hia wife is listed as a widow. Could not find in 1841 census, but much of that census is too faded to read. On the 1851 census, John is living in River Row and is listed as a mine hallier (sic). On the 1861 census he is living in Victoria Row and is listed as a coal miner. On his son John's marriage certificate (1865) he is listed as a haulier.
