Throughout the movie Nute Gunray is portrayed
as being right-handed. The real-life Nute was a southpaw!
When the battle droids make their first
appearance, a couple of them can be seen wearing wristwatches. Look even
closer and you'll see that one has donned tennis shoes!
It's a little-known fact that Watto received
his scar while playing some pick-up basketball outside the soundstage before
his first scenes were filmed. Director George Lucas thought it fit the
character, so he opted not to cover the scar up.
During the final battle between the Gungans
and the battle droids, sharp-eyed viewers may be able to spot one unlucky
Gungan lose his hairpiece. In the next shot, it's back on again!
Anakin believes he heard that angels come
from the moons of Iego. Well, it must've been some place else, kid. Iego
has
no moons!
In the same scene, a battle droid is seen
with the number 1137 on his back. Later on the same droid magically bears
the number 1138! A mid-battle promotion perhaps?
A few Theed scenes were actually filmed
on Corellia. In the background of one scene, a Corellian landspeeder is
clearly visible. Whoops!
Everyone loved hearing "Duel of the Fates"
during the breath-taking Jedi-Sith duel. But that number hadn't been released
until two years after the events in the movie take place!
Many have spotted ET in the Senate scene.
He had become fast friends with Lucas after being introduced to him by
Steven Spielberg, who directed the diminutive alien actor in the 1982 smash
hit movie, ET, and was asked by Lucas that he and a few friends
make a cameo appearance in The Phantom Menace.
As you well know, The Phantom Menace
takes place a generation before the original trilogy. So why is a member
of the pod race crowd wearing a Darth Vader t-shirt?
