We should be able to read a pet food label and know what the "PREMIUM" food we are buying contains. But today there are no laws governing what the pet food industry puts into a food be listed on the label in a way buyers can KNOW what is in that food.
In 1998 Herschel Pendell was the president of AAFCO. He appeared in a King 5 Seattle Washington television news interview and was asked if he could tell if a pet food contains euthanized pets by reading the label . . . he responded with:

In 1996, Roger Hoestenbach was President of AAFCO. He was asked a question about pet food advertisements and labeling. In his response he stated: ". . . the large manufacturers are protected by the Constitutionally guaranteed right of speech, which doesn't require that speech to be truthful or with reason."

In the last decade many pet owners have been DEMANDING laws be written which would regulate the pet food industry. Recently, a law was written which instructs the Federal FDA to hold the pet food companies accountable for the amount of protein or fat in a food be equal to what is listed on the label. The wording for that law was agreed upon by the lobbyist for the pet food industry. And NOW people working for the pet food industry can claim that the industry is "regulated" by the FDA. But pet food labels are not required to disclose the sources used in a food's protein only the % of protein in the food. There are still NO LAWS which would require full disclosure of the ingredients found in a pet food. Nothing has changed since the President of AAFCO stated he could not tell you if euthanized pets are in a product by reading the label.
I think we should know if a food's "meat meal" contains euthanized pets - including the chemicals used to kill them.
Pet owners should KNOW what is in the food they are feeding a loved one
