The nephilim of the Hebrew Bible make their first appearance in Genesis 6 prior to the great flood of Noah. Noah is a married adult and has three married sons during this period of time. We must pay special attention to the verses below and keep in mind the unique era of which they are written. There is a lot of information packed into these nine verses:

This is what these nine important verses describe:

1. There was a population boom going on. expanded

2. Divine beings married human women. expanded

3. God was very unhappy with what mankind was doing. They did nothing but evil all the time. expanded

4. God begins a timeline of 120 years. expanded

5. We are told that giants existed on the earth in Noah’s day and afterwards. expanded

6. These giants were considered by God to be men. expanded

7. Immediately after referencing these giants, we are told about the continual evil activity of men. expanded

8. The extent of the evil against God and His creation saddens Him deeply. expanded

9. God decides to destroy all flesh on the earth. expanded

10. Noah was special to God. expanded

11. Noah was perfect in his generations. expanded

Now let’s unpack these eleven points:

1. The first thing we are told is that the human population is exploding: “when men began to multiply on the face of the earth”. Keep in mind that people are living from three hundred sixty five years of age to over nine hundred years old! Because of this longevity, there could be up to ten generations living at one time! So there is the potential for billions of humans beings to be living on planet earth during this antediluvian age.

2. Next, we are introduced to the sons of God for the first time in the Bible. We see that the sons of God and humans are contrasted twice: “the sons of God saw the daughters of men” and “when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men”. The author of Genesis contrasts these two kinds of beings twice, because they are not the same kind of being. This is very important to understand!

The phrase the sons of God [bĕnê hā ʾĕlōhîm] is found in Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:1-7, Psalm 86:8; 95:3; 96:4; 97:7; 97:9; 135:5; 136:2; and 138:1.  The plural ‘gods’ [bĕnê ʾēlîm] is found in Exodus 15:11, Psalm 29:1; 58:1 and 89:6-7.  The parallel term children of Elyon [bĕnê ʿelyôn] in (Psalm 82:6-7) describes divine beings as well. The same “sons of God” terminology is used in the Ugaritic, Phoenician, and Akkadian languages as well.

Some would argue that these “Gods” are idols, but Psalm 97:7 clearly distinguishes between Gods and idols.

This verse contains an awesome description of presence of the Lord. It goes on to say those in heaven call Him righteous. Then it talks of people who worship idols and graven images. And finally we see a command for the gods [ʾĕlōhîm] to worship the Lord! Are idols in heaven? Can an idol or a graven image worship God?

Some might argue that there is only one God. If this is true, why does the very first commandment prohibit worshipping these non-existent gods?

Are we to believe that money, power, beauty, sex, football teams, material goods, new cars, food, and other things we covet are all gods? These can certainly be idols and do represent our material lusts, or our lusts of the flesh, but they are not the living, divine elohim, as noted many times in the verses above. These elohim are the little ‘g’ gods, “lesser elohim”, created by God, and put in a position of authority under Him. KJV Job 38:1-7 clearly shows the sons of God witnessing the creation of the material world “and all the sons of God shouted for joy”. You might think that these are angels, but the Hebrew word for angels is mal΄akim, so these ʾĕlōhîm are a different group of divine beings than the angels. And these are clearly not men, because we weren’t even created yet! The lesser gods exist in heaven, are members of God’s Divine Council, and were given power to rule over the nations of this earth, after the Tower of Babel.

The historic interpretation held by all Hebrew scribes prior to Christ had always been that the sons of God [bĕnê hā ʾĕlōhîm] are “divine beings”, and not angels or humans. However, during the intertestamental era, other theory’s were created by those who rejected the divine being interpretation to avoid what they perceived as a threat to monotheism. The Sethite theory is an alternate interpretation which came about in the time of Augustine (d. 430). In this theory, the sons of God were human males from Seth’s lineage (good) and the daughters of men were females from Cain’s lineage (evil). Not only is this an extremely sexist view (all the women were evil), but it does not explain how two humans could produce the gigantic nephilim. In addition there was a third interpretation that the sons of God were dynastic rulers (males) and the daughters of men (females) were of a lower station (non-royalty). This was the “royal view” and came about in the 2nd century AD. It also is a human/human situation which cannot produce the nephilim.

There are those who would be thinking that the modern eight to nine foot humans whose parentage were two ‘normal’ humans are these giants (like Capt. Martin Van Buren Bates and his wife Anna Swan Bates). These are people who are suffering from gigantism. These modern ‘giants’ are fairly frail and do not possess the strength that post-flood historians recount (such as leaping over six horses standing abreast, setting a sailing ship mast into position single-handedly, or like the Roman Emperor Maximus who consumed forty pounds of meat and six gallons of wine during a single meal, 1  etc.).

To argue that the sons of God are not divine beings you must:

• ignore all other uses of the phrase and parallel phrases in the old testament.

• argue that the sons of the Most High in (KJV Psalm 82:6-7) were humans and those “humans” were punished by causing them to die like humans (i.e. mortal men who were sentenced to die like mortal men, which makes no sense at all, but if immortal divine beings were punished by making them die like mortals, that would make perfect sense).

  KJV Psalm 82:6-7 6 I have said, Ye [are] Gods [elohim]; and all of you [are] children of the Most High [bĕnê ʿelyôn (children of Elyon)]. 7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

• ignore the same terms in the Ugaritic, Phoenician, and Akkadian languages as well as other Hebrew sources.

To believe the Sethite or Royal view is correct you must:

• admit the Sethites and Princes are never identified as sons of God anywhere in the Bible.

• argue that the Hebrew [ha-ʾadam] in (Genesis 6:1, 2) is translated as Seth or Prince:

  KJV Genesis 6:1, 2 “1 And it came to pass, when Sethites [men, ha-ʾadam] began to multiply on the face of the earth… 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of Seth [daughters of men, banôt ha-ʾadam]… ”. ‘adam’ means “Adam the person”, ‘men’, or it is used to describe “all of mankind”. So if you translate ‘banôt ha-ʾadam’ as daughters of Sethites and daughters of Princes in the verse above the translation is simply unworkable;

• argue that a particular human lineage (Seth’s or those of royal blood) gave a person favor with God;

• that the only faithful people were male (no females were godly);

• explain how Sethites or Princes could produce nephilim (giants);

• and argue that Peter (KJV 2 Peter 2:4-5) and Jude (NKJV Jude 6-7) were wrong!

  KJV 2 Peter 2:4-6 4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast [them] down to hell, and delivered [them] into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth [person], a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned [them] with an overthrow, making [them] an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; NKJV Jude 1:6-7 6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

3. Apparently, everyone except Noah and his immediate family were involved in wicked sins of one kind, or another. If mankind’s mind was continually evil, then they cared nothing for godliness. The only sin we are told about in Genesis 6 is the marriage of immortals (sons of God) with mortals (daughters of man) resulting in the birth of giants. The following passage shows that the laws set down by God concerning resurrected human beings and the unfallen heavenly beings is that they [humans or heavenly beings] are not to marry or be given in marriage. But in the context of Genesis 6, we are talking about fallen heavenly beings marrying. By definition fallen heavenly beings don’t follow God’s laws!

In KJV Genesis 6:2 we read “… they took them wives of all which they chose.” It is not correct to say that this selection of women was rape. These marriages were respectable and voluntary! They were not rape. There are many examples below that show this wording denotes a normal, voluntary union:

Since Noah and his sons were already married, we know Jesus was speaking of those humans not on the ark. The marriages He spoke of were voluntary. These were women who were willingly marrying the sons of God, and fathers who were willingly giving their daughters in marriage to those same sons of God. Jesus also eludes to wedding celebrations that included “eating and drinking”. This would also indicate that these marriages were voluntary. Jesus does not indicate any weeping or wailing concerning these marriages, quite the opposite!

4. God begins a timeline of 120 years. We know it wasn’t a shortening of the lives of the sons of God because they are divine, and therefore, immortal. We also know it wasn’t a shortening of the lifespan of Noah or his children because of the following passages:

I don’t think God would shorten ungodly men’s lives (including giants) and not also shorten Noah and his sons lives. This leaves just one possibility that I can think of. The 120 year period was a deadline for man to turn away from his wickedness, and return to the ways of God. Said another way, God was not going to put up with these sins forever. So He gives man 120 years to clean up his act, or suffer the destruction of “all flesh”. This would also imply that mankind still had a choice; freewill still existed, and they had a chance to change their ways and repent of their wickedness and be forgiven. One might also presume that this 120 years gives Noah time to prepare the ark for those who returned to God during that 120 year countdown to judgment.

5. Now we come to the giants. Most church-goers and those who have read the Old Testament either are aware, or accept the story of David and Goliath. Goliath of Gath was a post-flood Philistine giant. Many would not dispute this. But few are aware of the antediluvian giants. From those people I have talked to about these antediluvian giants and their origin, they just don’t want to believe that any divine beings ever copulated with human women. This claim of divine copulation does appear planet-wide in one form or another. The most well known story to the western world would probably be the Greek myth of the Titans. Yet, when Bible believing people are told giants existed because heavenly immortal males and mortal women crossbred, they just refuse to believe it! But that is exactly what their Bibles say, and Hebrew scribes knew this to be true for many centuries prior to Christ.

“How can this be?” you might say. Or, “that must be a translation error!” Well let’s look at versions besides the King James, including old and new translations from www.blueletterbible.org:

The same themes are repeated in the seven translations I have shown:

1. Giants existed before and after the flood.

2. The marriages of the sons of God and the daughters of men produced giant men.

3. “Came in to” is a common biblical euphemism for having sex. All seven of these versions tell of sexual relations between these two different kinds of beings. This is interspecies breeding.

4. Only human women bore these giants to the sons of God. No “daughters of God” (female angels/divine beings) are ever mentioned in the Bible.

5. The giants were an altered class of “man”. They were called “mighty”, “heroes”, and “men of renown”. These were men that were well known by the tales told about them after the flood, and before Genesis was formerly written down.

In some versions of the Bible they left the word for giant in it’s untranslated form: nephilim. Nephilim is just the transliteration of the Hebrew letters to English letters. For a detailed explanation of the origin of the word “nephilim” see the PDF at The Divine Council by Ph.D. Michael Heiser. This man is brilliant in his field of ancient near eastern languages and history.

If you drop the ‘im’ [ים] ( plural ending) from the end of nephilim [נפילים], you are left with the root word n-ph-i-l [נפיל] (pronounced n-ph-ee-l — the long ‘i’ sound [‘ee’ as in machine] is made by the Hebrew consonant ‘י’ yod). The Hebrew word “naphal” (“those who fall” or “those who fall upon” [as in battle]) is commonly thought to be the root of nephilim, as most Hebrew dictionaries will show. But this root does not account for the long ‘i’ (ee) sound, as well as other grammatical and linguistic reasons for “naphal” not being the correct root for nephilim.

Dr. Heiser believes the strongest evidence for the origin of “nephilim” is found the Aramaic language. In that language there is only one possible noun that nephilim can come from:

When the Aramaic word nephilin was brought into the Bible, which was being finalized during the Hebrew’s exile in Babylon, the Hebrew scribes changed the final ‘n’ to a ‘m’ for proper Hebrew.

Dr. Heiser does an excellent job of coherently explaining and solving this mystery. This word does mean giant, as many historical Hebrew scholars have known all along. There WERE “giants in the earth in those days…”! There are also many references to giant clans in post-flood biblical writings. Those will be covered in a future document.

There are also those who say that everything in the antediluvian world was of gigantic proportions. All the men and creatures on land, or in the water, were of a gigantic size, so the theory goes. They justify this by saying that the earth had an atmosphere that was twice as dense during that age (I agree about the atmosphere). I will call this the “dense atmosphere” theory (my terminology). They further explain that this extra air pressure allowed all species to grow very large, including insects. The “dense atmosphere” theory continues to say that a cataclysmic event triggered the great flood, and this same event changed our world forever (I agree here too). They offer several lines of proof for this theory,  1 very small nostrils of the huge reptilian dinosaurs which supposedly developed this way due to the extra oxygen content and higher atmospheric pressure;  2  the gradual decrease in lifespan of men after the flood because of the degradation of the antediluvian atmosphere, and  3  the smaller sizes of creatures in general after the flood because of the loss of air pressure and lowered oxygen content.

The “dense atmosphere” theory is also a way to explain the origins of the dinosaurs and explain the fossil record. Their view is that dinosaurs were a part of God’s creation, and that Adam named the dinosaurs in the garden of Eden. The dinosaurs were taken on the ark as babies (no biblical proof that any babies were on the ark), and were all somehow killed off after the flood, so the theory goes. I respect the man who espouses the “dense atmosphere” theory, very much, but I think he is very wrong about dinosaurs being a part of God’s original, unaltered creation. My theory is very different. It will be expanded on later, in my speculation. For now, I would point out, that aside from sea creatures, no gigantic being of any kind is mentioned before Genesis 6. To agree with the “dense atmosphere” theory you have to completely ignore that simple language of Genesis 6; that two unlike creatures crossed the boundaries of “kinds” that God defined during creation week, and in doing so, created a hybrid man of a size never noted before then. There is simply no evidence in the Bible to support that all things in the antediluvian world were gigantic. It also does not explain why there were post-flood giants, and how normal sized men lived right next to each other with both breathing the same atmosphere.

6. The giants/nephilim/gibborim were the hybrid offspring of mortal daughters of men and the immortal sons of God. This gives them human attributes and divine attributes. They house an immortal spirit because of their immortal fathers, but their flesh and blood was mortal like their mothers. This is why Genesis 6:4 calls the giants ‘men’, twice:

1. the same became mighty men [Gibborim]
2. men of renown

So when the author of Genesis says “… God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually”. God is obviously blaming giants and men here.

7.  Evil was so widespread, and so all encompassing, that there were only eight humans worthy of saving by the time of the flood. Of course, I am talking about Noah and his household. They had not partaken in the sins that were being practised all around them. Only a handful of animals were saved. I contend that some sinful condition also existed in the animal kingdom that made them unworthy of saving, except for those onboard the ark.

Fallen heavenly beings and Satan are pure evil. The watchers and Satan were punished for their rebellion against their creator by condemning them to a perpetual state of evil. They can do no good. Now imagine what the offspring of these fallen beings would be like? Their giant offspring’s demeanor would be very evil, just like their fallen fathers, and their father’s spiritual father — Satan. The giants would likely be exhibiting behaviour that men had never even considered before. They would lead mankind in rebellion against God and His creation because of the evil nature they inherited from their fathers. It’s likely that after men witnessed the evil deeds committed by the giants, they started to emulate those deeds. This reinforces the assertion made at the end of point 6.

8. What evils are going on before the flood? Let’s start in the garden of Eden. God gives us His plan for genetic purity during the week of creation. In just the selected verses below, He drives home the point five times, that ‘kinds’ of created beings are only to breed with the same ‘kind’ of created being!

The the first thing we notice from this passage is that any kind of creature which reproduces with its own kind of creature is not going to produce a different kind of creature, which is the exact opposite of what the godless theory of evolution teaches. It is easy to see then that if a ‘kind’ of created being breeds with its own ‘kind’ and produces another creature of that same kind, it is following God’s plan and would certainly considered a good thing. So if any ‘kind’ of created being bred with a different ‘kind’ of created being, that would be considered an evil thing! Humans are definitely not to mix with other ‘kinds’ of created beings, and neither should any other created being! Later, after the flood, genetic purity is mentioned again in the Old Testement:

We are even told that when a spiritual bond has been made between two families, via marriage, breeching that spiritual bond is an evil thing:

In short, we are being told to stay genetically pure and spiritually clean. The transgression of these divine laws in the Hebrew O. T. times is punishable by death! The alteration of genetic purity through interspecies breeding [mixing of kinds] was the core problem in the antediluvian age as is expressly described in Genesis 6.

Humans who were created from the dust of the earth, and for the earth, were breeding with beings who were created for the heavenly realm. This is a realm that mortal humans can’t even access! These two kinds of created beings couldn’t be any more different! So when the sons of God and the daughters of men interbred, they brought God’s righteous judgment upon themselves for their willing defilement of their respective ‘kinds’ and to the infernal offspring they produced.

Something also defiled the animals that brought judgement upon them as well! The animals were made from the earth, and for the earth, just like mankind, as we saw in Genesis 1:24-25. Any meddling with the animal kingdom’s genome would have brought judgement against the animals, just like it did for mankind.

What else is in the Bible concerning the evils committed by the antediluvian people? There are a few clues after the flood. What I am about to propose borders on speculation, which I will save for later in this document, but I think it is reasonable to ponder them at this point.

Immediately after the flood, God sets down new laws, never heard of before. I think it is reasonable to assume that these new laws were needed because of the evils that mankind (including giants) committed before the flood. They involve animals, blood, and murder:

After the flood God gives every creature that lives to mankind for food. Along with this gift of food comes the prohibition against consuming blood, which is the life of any creature. God also instills fear of mankind into the animals that wasn’t there previously. One presumes that this is to keep certain antediluvian sins from happening again after the flood. What were these sins? Were antediluvian men eating raw, bloody animal meat? Were they just killing the animals to get their blood? Or could there be something even more evil and sinister being committed by mankind and giants that involved the consumption of blood, which required this new law?

We should also take note that there was only two of each kind of animal when the ark landed and emptied its untainted cargo. So if there were very few animals, and God let mankind eat them immediately upon landing in the ark, we may presume that there was a rapid repopulation of animals on the earth and the prohibition against blood had nothing to do with keeping man from wiping certain kinds of creatures out by using them for food.

At a time which preceded the ten commandments by centuries, God gives man a law that we take for granted today. There shall be no murder. And if a man murders another man, he will perish by the shedding of his own blood, by a man. It is not much of a stretch to presume that murder was rampant before the flood, and that this murder was spilling blood. Was this law needed simply because of widespread murder? Could this murder and spilling of blood be from human sacrifice? Could it suggest cannibalism and vampirism? Or was it some combination of these things?

9. God decides to destroy “all flesh”, save those on the ark. This is unprecedented in the Bible!

The question I have been asking all my life is “if men were constantly being evil, why did God have to destroy ALL the animals—planet-wide?” The passage below defines who and what are included in the group “all flesh”:

It is very clear in the second passage that “all flesh” is defined as every living thing that breathes air. But what did the animals do to deserve destruction? Why were they victims of God’s righteous judgment? The first verse above tells us that the common condition that men and animals suffered was that: “all flesh had corrupted his way”. As was shown earlier, one way that mankind corrupted itself was by way of interspecies breeding. And since the first passage above suggests that all flesh had been corrupted in a similar manner, the animal kingdom must have also suffered from the same kind of corruption—interspecies breeding.

The New Testament also has something to say about the evil occurring in the antediluvian days:

Peter connects the sins of a certain group of fallen angels to the antediluvian age. The sins of those angels earned them eternal punishment in hell, but he doesn’t elaborated on the nature of those sins. Peter does connects the judgment of the antediluvian world to the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah, saying that they both would serve as examples to future ungodly men.

Another New Testament author, Jude, adds a little more detail:

Jude adds that originally, these angels once lived in heaven. He is in agreement with Peter when he says that they are now in hell. Jude connects Sodom’s sins and the angelic sins when he says “in a similar manner to these”. Jude clearly defines these sins as “having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh”! And finally Jude agrees with Peter that the judgment of the angels, the destruction of the antediluvian world, and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah serve as examples for future ungodly men.

As with the Old Testament, the New Testament tells us in these two passages that one of the great sins of the antediluvian world were sexual in nature “[going] after strange flesh”. Strong’s Concordance agrees that ‘strange’ can be translated as ‘different’ i.e. “different flesh”. And keep in mind that we learned above that ‘flesh’ could be any person or creature that breathes through nostrils!

These antediluvian angels and inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah really blew it! What did they do? They went after strange flesh and committed sexual immorality. Putting it more simply, both groups practiced interspecies breeding that earned them eternal punishment. Did humans start interbreeding with angels again at Sodom? Did the crossbreeding of animals occur at Sodom and Gomorrah like before the flood? When we consider the severity of the judgement against post-flood Sodom and the severity of the judgement of the pre-flood world, I’d say it did!

One question that still remains is if this crossbreeding was animal/animal, human/animal, giant/animal, divine being/animal, or all four? The bible is not specific except for the laws that God felt He needed to lay down concening bestiality after the flood and Sodom.

In a yet to be written post-flood nephilim document I will author, we will see that a couple times Joshua was commanded to kill every living thing in certain areas and cities inhabited by giant clans. This included every man, woman, child and animal! (One example of this would be Joshua 6:21.) Now, I think we know why total destruction was demanded even after the Sodom and Gomorrah event!

After the flood, God promised to never destroy “all flesh” by water again.

Future destruction will be by fire.

So how was post-flood Sodom and Gomorrah destroyed?

Like the antediluvian world, Sodom and Gomorrah’s wickedness was so grievous, that it had to be utterly, and completely destroyed, the former by water, and the latter by fire. This is a pretty clear message. Committing interspecies breeding is an extremely wicked sin and will not go unnoticed! Doing this will bring an extreme punishment upon those who participate!

Are there any other proofs that the sins of divine beings are connected to the flood? What else are we told about these divine beings who are being held in chains in hell?

Peter tells us that Jesus suffered and died for our sins. But His spirit was raised up from the dead. He went to hell to preach to the captive spirits [fallen divine beings] who sinned in Noah’s day.

Paul adds that before Jesus went to the highest heaven, He first went below the earth to fulfill prophecies.

Jude refers to the “wandering stars”. The term ‘stars’ is sometimes used for divine beings as we saw in Job 38:7 and can also be witnessed in Revelation 12:4. These particular ‘stars’ that Jude refers to are in hell “to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever”, so we know these are not astronomical stars. These stars are those that Enoch railed against in the antediluvian days, telling of the coming judgement of the ungodly. Those ungodly, we are told, “… have spoken against him. 16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling [words] …”. The fact that this group of divine beings are already in hell, had given into their lusts, and were connected to the antediluvian days of Enoch, is the same signature Peter speaks of in 2 Peter 2:4-5 and Jude spoke of earlier in Jude 1:6-7.

John proclaims that Jesus lives forever and now holds the keys to death and hell! THIS is the HEART of our salvation and our chance to have everlasting life by belief in His resurrection!

10.  And there is more good news!

The righteous were saved from the flood of water, and the righteous were saved from the rain of fire and brimstone. Those who resisted the wickedness around them were warned of impending doom and saved! So, if you stay righteous and true to God, you too can be warned of a coming judgment and saved! Lot’s house was saved, like Noah’s was. Lot, his wife, his two daughters and his sons-in-law were all worthy of being saved:

Lot’s sons-in-law would not listen to Lot, so they perished in the city. And Lot’s wife did not listen to God’s angels. She perished as the four of them were fleeing the city. Lot’s wife looked back at the destruction of their city, which was expressly forbidden, and was turned into a pillar of salt for her disobedience.

11. There is one last key item that differentiates Noah and his family from those around him. Noah is called “perfect in his generations”.

So we see that the integrity of Noah’s family history was without blemish in stark contrast to all of the creation that surrounded him. Noah’s bloodline was not defiled. Said in a more modern way, Noah’s DNA was unaltered. It was still as God had originally created it. This is probably the most important aspect that differentiated Noah from his contemporaries, (besides being righteous). He was still genetically pure! Conversely, this is why all other flesh, including animals, had to be destroyed! Their DNA was altered in some way. By having altered DNA they were impure, defiled, and worthy of total destruction.

Biblical Summary

During the antediluvian age, men were living longer than 900 years. These long life spans would have allowed couples to have many children. This resulted in a population boom. Noah lived ten generations after Adam and was a father of three married sons.

During this population boom, a group of fallen, divine, heavenly beings began to lust after the women of planet earth. They decide to intermarry with them. This decision to commit interspecies breeding could have just been because of their lust for women. It could have been that they wanted sons of their own. It could have been driven by their hatred for God’s creation, or their hatred of mankind in particular. They might have planned to do this evil deed with the intent of polluting the whole human genome making it impossible for the coming Messiah prophesied in Genesis 3. They might have chosen to do this evil deed because of all these motives, and more, or any combination thereof. The Bible doesn’t tell us the motivations of these fallen, divine beings.

These divine men would have been awesomely beautiful, extremely intelligent, spiritually and physically powerful, and most of all, they would have possessed eternal youth (immortality). Mortal men would have paled in comparison to these supermen; common human men would not have been able to compete. The subsequent interspecies marriages between earthly women and heavenly men were completely voluntary. Women wanted these incredible, divine men. Their fathers blessed these ungodly unions. These marriages were thought to be worthy of celebration by the participants, so they ate and drank. Musical instruments and song were also available at that time and could have aided in the celebration of this madness.

When the women later gave birth, they bore a new class of ‘men’. These “hybrid men” were of gigantic proportions. They were giants of mortal flesh and blood like all men, but they possessed an immortal spirit, the strength, the intelligence, and the inherent evil nature of their fallen, divine fathers. God classified these unnatural abominations as ‘men’; they were not divine. These powerful, giant men were capable of fantastic feats, which earned them reputations of being “mighty men”, ‘heroes’, and “men of renown” for generations after they were swept away by the flood.

The giants, having inherited the fallen nature of their fathers, would have been totally given over to evil. They would probably have committed sins that men had never thought of. Mankind witnessed these crimes against God and His creation and likely joined in. Both groups, mankind and giants went after strange flesh, which literally included having sex with everything that breathed! They were fornicating. They murdered each other. They spoke awful things against God. They were partaking in the consumption of blood. These sins we are fairly certain of, but I wouldn’t doubt that the list of the sins being committed in those days is much, much longer (as we will see later in the book of 1 Enoch).

God was deeply saddened by this planet-wide wickedness perverting His creation and was very wrathful at humankind, the giants, and their divine fathers for their collective transgressions. He gave humankind one hundred and twenty years to turn back to Godly ways. But the massive effort to pervert all of God’s perfect, created order, necessitated the destruction of “all flesh” from the earth. Only such drastic measures could eliminate this planet-wide defilement of God’s creation. Noah and seven others were the only humans in the end who were righteous, had not allowed the corruption of their DNA, and who had not been murdered.

Noah’s family and the animals on the ark, would be the pure seeds from which the whole planet would be repopulated. But first, the earth had to be purified and baptized by a planet-wide flood of epic proportions, like this planet has never seen before, or since, so that untainted life could begin again anew.

The sons of God that are mentioned in Genesis 6 are called watchers in 1 Enoch, The Book of Jubilees, and in various DSS. The term watcher is also used by Daniel in the Old Testament. The term is used for holy divine beings like in Daniel (below), or unholy divine beings in 1 Enoch and The Book of Jubilees.

When does this nephilim story start? It would start when the divine beings (watchers) physically manifest themselves on the earth. We know from the Bible that they arrived during a population explosion, but we aren’t told when, with any precision. Let’s look at The Book of Jubilees first:

• A.M. is an abbreviation of the Latin Anno Mundi which means “the year of the world”. The four hundred and sixtieth year after creation is a good approximate date for the watcher’s arrival.

• Jared was the sixth generation from Adam. The watchers may have descended just prior to Jared’s birth, because he was apparently named for that event.

• Jared’s name in Hebrew indicates “to come down”, “to descend”, and “go downwards”.

• Jubilees confirms that the watchers are angels.

• The watchers originally had a divine mission on earth to teach, be fair judges of men, and serve as good examples to mankind.

• Two hundred watchers came down to Mount Hermon in the days of Jared and landed on the peak of the mountain.

• The watchers were on Mount Hermon when they agreed to go forward with their plan and swore to carry it out and bound themselves with a curse. We do not know how long they carried out their original righteous purpose before deciding to commit this great sin.

• Mount Hermon is named after this event.

• By leaving heaven (their first estate) the watchers sinned against the word of God.

• This sounds very similar to Genesis 6:1-2, 4b.

• Jubilees confirms that there was a population boom going on.

• Divine beings married and mated with women.

• Jubilees agrees with Genesis and the New Testament authors that these were not human/human unions.

• Their hybrid offspring were giants.

• 1 Enoch agrees with Genesis and Jubilees that a population boom going on.

• 1 Enoch agrees that the watchers are divine beings.

• The watchers lust after the beauty of women and decide to marry them with the intent of having children.

• 1 Enoch agrees with Genesis, Jubilees and the New Testament authors that interbreeding between heavenly beings and earth women actually happened.

• 1 Enoch calls the interbreeding a great sin, which agrees with Peter and Jude.

• 1 Enoch confirms that these were not human/human unions.

• We are told that Shemihazah was the chief of the two hundred divine beings and every one of them agreed to partake in these sins.

• They swear an oath to willingly go through with their evil, breeding scheme.

• Interbreeding (go in to them) defiles the watchers.

• Interbreeding is not the only sin committed in these days! The watchers taught their wives “sorcery and charms, and to reveal to them the cutting of roots and plants”.

• Giant ‘men’ were the offspring of this interbreeding program between heaven and earth.

• Mankind is somehow put in a position to have to supply food for the giants.

• The giants murder men.

Book of Giants 1Q23 Frag. 9 + 14 + 15  2 [ … ] they knew the secrets of [ … ]  3 [ … si]n was great in the earth [ … ]  4 [ … ] and they killed many [ … ]  5 [ … they begat] giants [ … ]

• The giants eat all the food that mankind can produce, so the giants begin to eat humans instead!

• The giants start sinning against the animal kingdom. Notice the book of 1 Enoch says that “the giants began to kill men”, contrasting “they began to sin against the birds and beasts and creeping things and the fish”! It doesn’t say they killed men and they killed animals. I submit that the author of this portion of 1 Enoch is purposely contrasting “killing men” and “[sinning against the animals]”, because they were radically different sins! In other words, the giant’s sins against the animal kingdom were not that they were killing or eating them; this sin was something much worse.

• The giants begin to cannibalize each other.

• They start to drink blood. This seems to be human blood because it follows immediately after saying “…and to devour one another’s flesh”.

• The earth then begins to make accusation to heaven, reminiscent of what happened when Abel’s blood was spilled on the ground.

• The Genesis Apocryphon mentions the giants spilling blood.

• After the flood God gives permission to Noah to consume animals ( Genesis 9:2-4, 6 ). With this permission to consume animals, comes a prohibition against consuming animal blood.

• Jubilees says this prohibition against consuming animal blood would not expire.

• Those that consume animal blood will be wiped out!

• The Genesis Apocryphon mentions the prohibition against consuming any blood, after the flood, just like Jubilees and Genesis.

• The Book of Jubilees and DSS 1Q23 from the Book of Giants agree that evil is rampant!

• “All flesh” includes everything that breathes, as we see in Genesis 7:21-22 above.

• Genesis 6, The Book of Jubilees, 1 Enoch, and DSS 1Q23 from the Book of Giants all use the terms ‘corrupt, corruption, corrupted’ to describe what is happening to “all flesh” on planet earth.

• “All flesh” corrupted it’s way and their orders! So some kind of crossbreeding of the animal kingdom was underway according to Genesis, Jubilees, the Book of Giants, and 1 Enoch. If this kind of crossbreeding was occurring, it would be a great evil against the God of creation as was made clear in Jude, which uses the phrase “gone after strange flesh” to describe the corruption of all genomes.

• Jubilees agrees with 1 Enoch that the giants stoop to cannibalism, but Jubilees seems to indicate that “all flesh” began to devour each other “all flesh corrupted its way, alike men and cattle and beasts and birds and everything that walks on the earth—all of them corrupted their ways and their orders, and they began to devour each other”. The subject in this sentence is “all flesh” and “all flesh” is devouring each other and these seems to be the result of them “corrupt[ing]…their orders”. This means that animals ate ‘men’ and visa versa. And since God considered the giants—men, they are involved here as well.

• Remember, we just read that “all flesh had corrupted their way”.

• Two hundred is the number of the fallen watchers according to 1 Enoch.

• Two hundred animals of all “kinds” were chosen for miscegenation (crossbreeding) by the angels!!! Because of the number of animals chosen (two hundred), it appears that the watchers were choosing animals for their own purposes! This may be how the corruption of the animals began. It begins to explain the nature of the sins that demanded the animal kingdom’s destruction, and another reason why these watchers ended up in hell!

• The watchers begot giants and monsters!!! We know the giants were born of women from Genesis, Jubilees, and 1 Enoch. None of these texts calls the giants—monsters. In fact the Bible calls the giants men. I submit to the reader that if evil watchers breeding with humans produces giant evil men, due to their father’s fallen, evil spirits, then evil watchers (or giants) breeding with reptiles would produce giant, evil reptiles, ie monsters or dinosaurs!

• Here in the DSS Book of Giants, it is the angels who are being blamed for interspecies breeding [miscegenation] between themselves and the animals. In 1 Enoch, the giants are blamed for this. Both versions could be correct.

• “They were seeking to devour many…”. Is this the giants or monsters devouring many? Many what? Men? Animals?

• The monsters are not docile because they attack “it”. They attack the creation of God?

• Asael taught men mining and metallurgy, which led to the production of weapons of war and jewelry. He is also ascribed as the one who taught basic eye makeup, the use of gemstones, and how to dye clothing.

• Men made jewelry for themselves (with the knowlwdge learned from Asael and perhaps Tubalcain–see below) and their daughters, which the daughters in turn used to seduce the watchers.

• Evil was increasing.

• They made their ways desolate.

• Shemihazah taught spells and the use of roots. His subordinates taught sorcery, the loosing of spells, and magic. They also taught signs of the skies, the stars, the earth, and of the sun and moon—these are all evil methods of finding out the future [astrology].

• And they all began to reveal mysteries to their wives and to their children.

• (And) as men were perishing, a cry went up to heaven.

• Cain married his sister and had a son named Enoch [not the righteous Enoch of latter generations].

• Cain built the very first city for his son Enoch.

• Cain’s great-great-great grandson Jabal is the first to live in tents and raise cattle.

• Cain’s great-great-great grandson Jubal was the first musician.

• Cain’s great-great-great grandson Tubalcain was “an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron”. Tubalcain may have been the first man that Asael instructed in mining and metallurgy. The knowledge of mining and metallurgy could have enabled the following basic advancements to the antediluvian world: weapons like swords, knives and spears; defensive implements of war like shields, helmets and body armor; garden and agricultural tools such as crude ploughs, shovels and hoes; jewelry such as necklaces, pendants, rings, earrings, piercings, arm bands, and bracelets; mirrors of silver; tools such as metal hammers, nails, axes, buckets, sewing needles, awls, saws, drills and chisels; idols made of, or plated with metal; metal eating and cooking utensils like goblets, knives, and pots; coins, amulets, etc.. In fact, some of these implements have been found encrusted in coal, which was made by a rapid burial of plant life.

• God saw that all flesh had corrupted their orders.

• All [flesh] on the earth were evil (except Noah).

• Every evil was being practised.

• God decides to destroy all flesh.

• Noah was favored by God.

• Four archangels see the murder and godlessness on the earth.

• They note that Asazel has stolen secrets from heaven and has taught all sins to mankind, which men were already trying to learn.

• God placed Shemihazah in authority over the two hundred watchers (on their original righteous mission). He and those under his authority taught “hate-producing charms”.

• Shemihazah and his subordinates fathered half-breed giants with earth women.

• The earth then filled with bloodshed and iniquity.

• The dead souls of men unceasingly ask God for justice for the evils that befell them.

• God sends Sariel to Noah to tell him to hide.

• Sariel is to reveal to Noah that a great flood is coming.

• Noah is told that everything on earth will be destroyed.

• Sariel is to teach Noah what to do (build the ark?) to preserve himself.

• Noah’s seed will repopulate the earth and endure forever.

• Raphael was sent to forcibly restrain Asael and place him in a awful place of darkness and jagged rocks.

• Asael is bound and covered with darkness. He will have his end in the lake of fire. Because he is restrained there forever, we can deduce that Asael is not Satan as some suggest.

• Raphael is to heal the earth, presumably by halting the sins that are destroying it.

• Asael is blamed for the desolation of the earth. Nickelsburg pg.222 thinks this ‘desolation’ is the obliteration of humans from the earth.

• Raphael is to list all the sins Asael has committed as a sort of epitaph and indictment.

• Asael and the watchers are blamed for the desolation of all the earth.

• In verses from post-flood times Noah tells his sons not be seen naked, to bless their Creator, to honor their father and mother, and to love their neighbors.

• Noah asks his sons to stay away from fornication, uncleanness, and iniquity.

• The sins of fornication, uncleanness, and iniquity is what the great flood washed away.

• The antediluvian sin of fornication was sex between ‘kinds’ (mortals and immortals are mentioned).

• The antediluvian sin of uncleanness were the unlawful marriages of heaven and earth. This was just “the beginning of uncleanness”. The crossbreeding of immortals and mortals was the beginning of uncleanness, so what was the next phase(s) of uncleanness, if this was just the first? Were these next steps the pollution of the animal kingdom via crossbreeding? Were all three groups, men, giants, and divine beings involved in this pollution of the animal genome? Was it just the animals involved in crossbreeding? Would the animals do this on their own, or would they need the insistance and forced guidence of men, giants, and divine beings to get them to do this? Something caused the need for the animals to suffer judgement. They were “corrupted” in some way! Something happened with the animals that forced God to make the whole animal kingdom fear man post-flood!!!

• The antediluvian sin of injustice was the violence of the giants and the wickedness of mankind.

• Gabriel is sent to the earth to start to destroy the giants by fomenting a war among them.

• There were men still living when the war of the giants starts.

• ‘Miscegenation’ is the same term used in the Book of the Giants to describe what the two hundred watchers were doing to corrupt the animal kingdom.

• God restricts the giants from living long lives.

• No quarter will be granted to the requests of the watchers concerning the longevity or the deaths of their sons.

• No giant will live more than five hundred years. (There was approximately eight hundred and forty six years between the time of the arrival of the watchers and the start of the flood according to the Book of Jubilees. 461 A.M. - 1307 A.M.)

• God orders the deaths of the giants.

• The subject here is certainly the giants because their peculiar parantage is mentioned.The only men spoken of in this passage are the giants. Non-hybrid humans are not spoken of at all.

• The giants will all be dead within one hundred and twenty years by the sword as a result of God’s command. Is this the same 120 year period we find in Genesis 6? Is the purpose of the one hundred and twenty year period in Jubilees and Genesis 6 the same?

• The giants start to kill each other by the sword as a result of God’s order.

• All the giants die in the war. Therefore, according to Jubilees, no giant dies in the flood!

• The watchers are made to suffer as they witness the deaths of their giant sons.

• After their sons were all dead, the watchers were bound in prison (hell, sheol, etc.), inside the earth, until judgment day. I take this to mean that the watchers were bound in hell prior to the flood and can not get out.

• Every fallen watcher was under God’s judgement and none were able to avoid His judgement.

• The immortal spirits of the giants, which were released at death became what we are told are evil spirits (demons). If their spirits were evil after death, it is certain that their spirits were evil before death.

• Heavenly spirits were made for heaven and meant to dwell there, although they are allowed to come to earth temporarily, when needed. Human spirits were made from the dust of the earth and meant to dwell on the earth. So when the watchers began to act as men by breeding with earth women to have sons, they gave up their rights to enter heaven again and became earth bound. The spirits of the hybrids they begot would be made from the earth, just like men are. This is why the demons are trapped within our sphere of existance and can never go to heaven—their fathers became earth bound just like their mothers.

• The function of the evil spirits released from the giant’s at death is to corrupt mankind!!! They lead humans away from God, they do violence to mankind, they make humans desolate, they struggle with humanity, and they cause human illnesses.

• The evil giant’s spirits plague mankind, because they originated from mankind.

• These evil spirits plague mankind without any day to day consequence.

• They will be allowed to attack mankind until the Great Day of the Lord when their reign will be ended once and for all.

• Michael is sent to bind Shemihazah and those under his authority.

• These watchers are to witness the deaths of their sons as we saw in Jubilees.

• After the watchers witness their sons deaths, they are to be bound for 70 generations until they receive their eternal punishment on judgment day.

• Michael is ordered to destroy the giants and the spirits of the half-breeds. We know that the spirits of the giants are eternal, and they exist to this day as demons. Are these “spirits of the half-breeds” from the hybrid-animals that the watchers produced? If these half-breed spirits are from the hybrid-animals spawned by the watchers, then there are no contradictions. I admit this is confusing and requires some more thought.

• The giants and the “half-breeds” are blamed for wronging men. If my suggestion that half-breed animals were created by the watchers is correct, they would be as evil as their ‘fathers’ and would likely be consuming mankind like the other hybrid-offspring from the watchers did—the giants.

• God sent some watchers to earth, then they sinned.

• God wanted them gone from the earth because of their sins.

• God commands the holy watchers to bind the fallen watchers.

• They are to be held in the depths of the earth.

• The holy watchers tell Enoch to give a message to the evil watchers that they will have no peace or forgiveness.

• The watchers rejoice over their sons even though they know the incredibly wicked sins their sons are committing. This must make God very angry!!

• Enoch is told that the evil watchers will see the slaughter of their sons.

• The evil watchers will lament forever because of their son’s deaths, but will be granted no mercy or peace.

• The watchers ask Enoch to take a petition to God.

• The watchers cannot lift their eyes, or speak to God in heaven because of their shame.

• The watchers want to ask God for forgiveness for their sins, and the sins of their sons by means of Enoch’s prayers.

• The watchers are also asking for long lives for their sons, rather than the death sentence that has been decreed by God.

• Enoch writes their petition.

• Enoch recites the petition to God near the waters of Dan until he fell asleep.

• Enoch delivers the reply from God to the watchers.

• The watchers will never again enter heaven.

• The pleas of the watchers will never be granted.

• The watchers will be shackled and imprisoned inside the earth.

• The watchers will see their sons die by the sword as the first step of their punishment.

• God scolds the watchers for asking for mercy for their human sons, when they should be asking for mercy for the humans they have wronged!

• God scolds the watchers for breaking the laws of heaven and for abandoning heaven.

• The watchers were defiling themselves by having sex with the women, and even more so by having sex during menstruation.

• The women were having sex with another “kind” of creature which defiles the women. This other ‘kind’ of creature were the watchers.

• Immortal watchers were acting like mortal men by marrying and having sexual relations with women.

• God gave man a women because he needed a helper and they needed each other in order to reproduce, so the planet could be populated. And later, after the fall of humankind, there would be death, and reproduction would overcome the possibility of humankind dying out.

• God did not give “female heavenly beings” to the “male heavenly beings” because they had no need to reproduce. They are immortal. So here, by inference, we are told that there are no “female divine beings” (female watchers/gods/angels). This is why the watchers required earth women to reproduce! If there were female divine beings to mate with, can you imagine the awesomeness of the offspring of that union?!

• Noah is ordered to build an ark to save himself [and his household] from the flood.

• Noah built the ark to God’s exact specifications.

• The ark was finished thirteen hundred and seven years after the creation the world.

• Blood had to be shed in the form of animal sacrifice to pay for the “guilt” of the earth.

• Only Noah and those with him on the ark were saved from the flood. Everything else was destroyed.

Pseudopigraphia Summary

There are beings which are called watchers. They are divine beings. There are holy watchers like those in the book of Daniel (see above), or they can be fallen, evil watchers like those mentioned in Jubilees and 1 Enoch. They are the same beings mentioned in the Genesis 6 story, which are called the sons of God. When the watchers left heaven, they left the domain that they were created for, and by doing so, sinned against God. They came to earth and touched down on Mount Hermon in the days of Jared approximately 460 years after creation. Jared was the sixth generation from Adam and Jared was named after that event on Mount Hermon. Jared’s son was Enoch, who begot Methuselah and he had a son named Lamech. Lamech was the father of Tubalcain, Jabal, Jubal, and Noah.

Genesis, Enoch and Jubilees agree that a population boom was going on when these heavenly beings came to earth. We are told that Shemihazah was the chief of two hundred of these fallen watchers which came to earth. They see the beautiful earth women and want to marry them for the purpose of having children. The women openly and willingly except the watchers in marriage, and their fathers willingly give their daughters to them in marriage. The watchers are apparently so lustful of earth women that they defile themselves by having sex even when the women are menstruating. The women are defiled just by having sex with the watchers. This interspecies breeding that the women allow, and their father’s encourage, is actually a form of bestiality, which is punishable by death! So it is clear that humans willingly brought the antediluvian destruction on themselves. The humans cannot blame the watchers for something they knowingly and willingly committed.

The results of immortal male watchers breeding with mortal women, were gigantic, evil, human offspring. Giant humans will have a giant appetite, so the giants start eating all the food that mankind can supply, and presumably, it’s not enough, because they began to cannibalize mankind soon after. The giants also begin to consume each other. They start to drink blood, probably the blood of their victims.

Genesis, Jubilees, and the Book of Giants say that ALL flesh had corrupted its ways. The Book of Jubilees, 1 Enoch, and the Book of Giants tell us that sins against the animal kingdom were being committed. Of these four writings, the Book of Giants has the clearest description of these sins, even though it is very fragmented. (It is a shame that this DSS is so fragmented. I have a feeling there is a lot more important detail there. I will hold back on my speculation on these matters until after we discuss all the facts.) It tells us that two hundred of each kind of creature was chosen for the specific purpose of miscegenation (crossbreeding)!

Since there were two hundred watchers and two hundred of each kind of creature was chosen, it’s very clear to me what they intended to do with these creatures! This crossbreeding of heavenly beings with earth creatures yields infernal offspring. They are called “monsters” by the translators of the DSS. I know how disgusting and repulsive this revelation sounds to the reader. But I ask you, how disgusting and repulsive would this be to a perfect and Holy God who had to witness the total defilement and perversion of His creation? With these abominable sins in mind, it is very easy to understand why the destruction of the animal kingdom had become necessary!

These evil watchers knew that this mixing of “kinds” is a “great sin”. The apostle Peter agrees with 1 Enoch and Jubilees when he speaks of the sins of the angels and connects those sins to the time of Noah. Jude says that those same angel’s sins were sexual sins and that their sexual sins were “going after strange flesh” and those sins necessitated their destruction. Jude and Peter wrote these words hundreds of years after 1 Enoch, Jubilees, and the Book of Giants were written, so these New Testament writers are in harmony with the concept of “angelic breeding” described in these ancient writings. These New Testament authors also agree how despicable a transgression this was and uses the description of their eternal punishment and torture as a warning for future generations who consider committing these same sins.

All these terrible evils seem to increase until Genesis and Jubilees tells us that “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Things are so horribly unjust that “… the earth brought accusation against the lawless ones.”, which is reminiscent of what happened when Abel’s blood was spilled on the ground by his murderer, Cain, and how the innocent blood cried out to God for vengeance.

We are also told of a technology transfer going on by Shemihazah & his subordinates and Asael/Asazel. Shemihazah and his crew of two hundred watchers taught spells, the use of roots, sorcery, loosing of spells, magic, “hate-producing charms”, and astrology. They reveal these mysteries to their wives and to their gigantic children. Asael/Asazel stole secrets from heaven and taught men mining and metallurgy, which enabled the production of weapons of war and jewelry. He is also ascribed as the one who taught basic eye makeup, the use of gemstones, and how to dye cloth. Men made jewelry for their daughters which they (the daughters) used to seduce the watchers.

Everyone, everywhere on the earth were continually evil except for Noah, his three sons, and their wives. There are only eight people on the whole planet who have not corrupted their orders! Put another way, “Noah was … perfect in his generations”. As we saw from Strong’s Concordance above, this meant that Noah’s bloodline was untainted. His DNA and lineage was still as God had created it. All of God’s creation had been corrupted: first by the fallen watchers, then by the giants, and then by men.

The holy watchers in heaven tell Enoch to give a message to the evil watchers on earth that they will have no peace or forgiveness. The evil watchers ask Enoch to take a petition to God because they cannot approach heaven, nor even lift their eyes to heaven, because of their shame. So Enoch writes their petition. He recites that petition to God near the waters of Dan. Then Enoch delivers the reply from God to the watchers. No quarter will be granted to the requests of the watchers concerning the death sentence of their sons. He tells the watchers that they will be bound in the earth after they see their sons die by the sword.

Raphael is sent by God to forcibly restrain Asael/Asazel and place him in a awful place of darkness and jagged rocks. He is also blamed for the desolation of the earth. Raphael is to list all the sins that Asael/Asazel has committed as a sort of epitaph, above him. His end will be in the lake of fire. Raphael is also sent to heal the earth, presumably by halting the sins that are destroying it.

Michael is sent to bind Shemihazah and the other two hundred watchers under Shemihazah’s authority. Gabriel is sent to foment a war amongst the giants, so that the watchers can witness the destruction of their beloved sons. In this way, the giants will be wiped from the face of the earth prior to the flood. Then they are to be bound by Michael for seventy generations in the valleys of the earth. “Then later they will be led away to the fiery abyss, and to the torture, and to the prison where they will be confined forever”. Asael/Asazel, Shemihazah and the other two hundred watchers have the same fiery punishment as those at Sodom and Gomorrah: “… suffering the vengeance of eternal fire”.
