James LillyMemories of my Grandparents by Virginia Lilly Victor: James Lilly played a five string, and delighted in getting his grandchildren to dance. He chewed "Brown's Mule" tobacco, and as small children, we loved to play with the tiny red, metal mules on each plug. He used to slice potatoes very thin and fry them on an old wood stove; REAL POTATO CHIPS! He had a good sense of humor and loved to play with his grandchildren. Lula Florence Crum Lilly was a small woman, who had very pretty, long, white hair and I loved to visit her on "shampoo" day, the only time we saw her hair out of her "severe knot." She had very curly hair, but hated the curls. She had a more serious nature than Grandpa and when his teasing bothered her she would say "Now Jim!"
