About
30 miles along a road which required 4 wheel drive vehicles for access
was the Racetrack. The playa, or lake bed, occasionally has water in
it, but is usually dry. Unfortunately tire tracks cross this fragile
landscape that changes infinitely slowly over the course of hundreds
of years. At the top of the frame is the jumble of rocks known as the
Grandstand, somewhat under 100 feet high. At the other end of the lake
bed are the boulders which slide around on the surface of the playa,
through unknown forces. CA 103
