The locals still living in and farming the canyon conjecture that the Anasazi - the Old Ones - left these inaccessible dwellings because of drought. But where they went is still a mystery. Please note: the pictograph carved into the vertical stone wall below the ruins is probably 100 feet above the canyon floor, and 10 to 20 feet high. AZ 104
