Between hiking along the Amalfi Coast and
visiting ancient ruins, there wasn't much time for railfanning.
However, we rode a few trains. For rail photos from Italy, click here.
Another view of the dramatic scenery along the Amalfi
Coast. We look down on the little village of Atrani, which is
squeezed into a small valley along the coast. We ended the day's
hike a few hours later on the beach below.
We arrived two days before the tour
started, which allowed us time to visit the ruins of Herculaneum
and Pompeii, which were both destroyed by eruption of Vesuvius in
79AD. The ampitheater pictured at right gives an idea of the
scale of the ruins at Pompeii.
After the walking tour ended, we spent a few days in
Rome. At left, Chris stands in front of the Trevi fountain. A few
minutes later, we made the obligatory coin tosses which guarantee
our return to Rome.
