NOTE :
U.S. 22 BLOOMINGDALE BRIDGE IS BEING
REPLACED *
These are the new
directions to use as of - May
1, 2009
Please read them if you are coming and CLICK HERE
_________________________________________________
I
have been up there and you can still use the east
bound exit. But, it may not be open then, so, if you are COMING FROM THE WEST on U.S. 22,
after you pass Cadiz, Oh
start looking for - COUNTY LINE
ROAD - it is a
few miles and will turn off to the RIGHT.
Once you turn, just a short distance and you will make a LEFT onto West Stuenbenville Street.
If you are COMING FROM THE
EAST on U.S. 22,
continue on past the Bloomingdale exit. You will go a few
miles and after the 2nd over pass,
please get and stay in the left lane. Start looking for - COUNTY LINE ROAD - you will be
turning LEFT across U.S.
22. Once you turn, just a short
distance and you will make a LEFT
onto West Stuenbenville Street.
From
both directions once you turn onto West Stuenbenville Street - follow
this road to the RED LIGHT
in Bloomingdale.
Make a RIGHT just a
short distance you will make a LEFT
onto CR
26 and a cemetery will be on your right. If, you go too
far you
will notice you are on CR 25,
and will need to turn around to go back
and get on CR 26.
Follow CR 26, it is a
little rough in spots,
you will come to a turn to the LEFT
to stay on CR 26. It is
not too far
a distance and on your left will be the entrance to the Forest
area. You will see the Forest Sign as you turn in.
Follow the road up past the rifle and pistol ranges and you will turn
left into the campground main road. There are camp spots on the
left and right of the road. You will probably need to go up and around
the Latrine and come down if you want to use a site on the road coming
in because of the angle it is easier to back in if you are coming down
the road. There are camp spots around the Latrine as well.
If you are coming to the camp out and unsure of the directions,
please EMAIL ME
and I can give you my cell phone number in case you have any problems
or an emergency.
You can use MAP QUEST
for directions
to Bloomingdale, Ohio, but when I checked it had no mention of the
Bloomingdale bridge being replaced. Although, the map may help
you understand getting to Bloomingdale and the forest easier.
Bloomingdale sits right along U.S. 22 and you can see it from the
highway. The forest is just 4-5 miles from Bloomingdale. If
you have GOOGLE earth, type in Bloomingdale and you can see the roads
you will be on to get to Bloomingdale and the forest.

The
campground is
'free' primitive with NO Electric. No reservations are required,
just pick a camp spot, there are (22) sites available. The campground
area is wooded with nice camp spots, a latrine and
water available. There are a couple short hiking trails in the wooded
area around the
campground. There are separate ranges for shooting trap, pistol
and rifle, so if you care to do some target practice, it is
available. There is a camp host there and can get info and a
brochure for the forest. Firewood MUST BE BOUGHT in the
area and not allowed to be brought in.

It is about 3
miles to the Forest main area, which has a trail, picnic area, latrine
and 2 vistas to view and relax as well. Getting to the forest is
easy. Just go out of the campground and turn LEFT onto CR 26
and follow it to the stop sign. Turn LEFT and follow CR 26 maybe
a
mile or so and as you come to the top of a hill, you will see the sign
and turn RIGHT into the Forest main area. The road goes to the
top and you will see the vistas and picnic area.

There is a
store and gas station in Bloomingdale. When you go back to the
red light in Bloomingdale, turn LEFT and not too far there is a store
and gas station on the right. I was there and they seem to have
most everything available, food, gas, ice, snacks, etc.

This
will generally be a laid back type of camp out. Come and enjoy
the area, good food and old and new vintage camper friends.
Below
is a listing of some things that are planned, if there is enough
interest, but coming and having a good time is the main theme.

This
will be on Saturday afternoon around 1:00. We'll go to the
Forest Main area to explore, hike. etc. Around 3 - 4:00 we'll
meet
and have a
picnic at the top of round picnic area - there are 2 picnic tables with
grills there to use. If, for some reason the area is being used,
we can decide to wait or the one vista has a nice area, but no tables,
etc, or have the picnic back at the campground
recreation area. Please bring your cooler with drinks, food
you want to cook, plates and utensils. I will provide charcoal
for the grills to cook.

There
is another area of the forest not mentioned mostly because the
brochure - map for the forest does not show any trails or anything
there,
other than forest. If anyone is interested we could take a ride
there to see it. Also, the campground recreation area has a net
for badminton - volleyball - anyone interested bring the
equipment. As mentioned above, there is a pistol, rifle and trap
shooting ranges for anyone interested. There is another Forest in
the area close to Cadiz, Ohio, with 2 campgrounds and hiking trails. If
anyone
would like to visit that forest or something else in the area, that can
be set
up.
I
plan to be there on Thursday the 14th until at least Monday the 18th,
anyone is welcome to come, it's a FREE
campground too - see you there ! So, make your plans now to
attend. Check to see who is signed up and send your info if you
are planning to come.
