If
you live in an area that has snow and cold weather in the winter
months, then this may be more
important to you. Obviously, the best would be a garage, carport
or some other type of structure to put your vintage camper in or under
to keep the elements off. Below is one type of 'garage' offered
by
SHELTERLOGIC.
Click to goto their web site and sure there are others you can find by
searching the web.
Here is a list of some things you
might want to consider:
- Snow
accumulating on the roof and left there will add extra weight
and may cause structural damage.
- It may also cause the edge and
roof seams to separate and cause water leaks when the snow melts.
- Snow
accumulating around the bottom can be bad as most walls
are made of plywood or some wood. The wood could draw the
moisture up into
the walls and cause rot to the plywood much like a candle draws the oil
into the wick to burn.
- For those that have a water
tank, lines, bath, etc. you will need to
make sure
all the water is flushed and drained from all of them. Some
people
will use an RV antifreeze to fill these lines, etc. to prevent them
from freezing.
- If you have a garage
or other storage area to put your vintage camper in during the winter
months,
this would be the best.
- You can
keep the front of the camper raised higher so the snow can slide off
easier if it warms a little instead of accumulating. It it does
start to accumulate on the roof or around the bottom then you can
remove it.
- You can use a long handled push
broom to get it off
the roof by carefully raking it off.
- Another idea if you have a
small heater you could let it warm the inside and the
heat should help loosen the frozen snow.
You can use a tarp to cover the
camper. I'd make sure any snow that is accumulated is removed or
you can make a framework to keep the tarp and that snow weight off the
camper. Below is Jeannie's lattice work and blue tarp for Scotty.
Jeannie found these car covers for
a very reasonable price.($29)
They
are large enough for the Scotty for winter cover.

These are just some of the ideas
for winterizing your vintage camper, especially if it has to sit out in
the elements. I'm sure there are other ideas too.
EMAIL
