If your older ( mid 60's and back) vintage camper has a bumper, then you're probably one of the lucky ones.  It seems a bumper was an option on these older vintage campers.

Bob recently posted this great info from documentation that it appears the bumper was an option beginning in 1965 on the Serro Scotty, below is all the info:

"Based on a brochure from 1963, there is no mention of any bumper on any model, nor do any of the brochure pictures show any bumpers. A 1964 article from Mobile Home Journal with a very complete test review of the HiLander mentions many options but not a bumper, nor do the pictures show one. Then in 1965, 1966 and 67 brochures, they mention a rear bumper as an option on the 13' Tonga and Gaucho, the 15'Scotty  regular and HiLander models. By 1973, the ad for the new 18' trunkback shows a 4" round rear bumper as standard. Based on brochures in 1979, a 4" square steel bumper is mentioned as standard on  all Scotty's. From this date on, the 4" square bumper was standard on all models except the 1981 14' HiLander, on which it was optional, but standard on the 15' HiLander as well as the smaller models. On the larger Scotty's at that time a 4 1/2" square bumper was standard. This appears to then be the pattern on all Scotty's after 1981.

"By 1979 all Scotty's had standard the 4" square bumper like yours, well except for the 1981 14' HiLander which was a one of a kind model on which a bumper was optional to make it cheaper than the 15' HiLander of that year. The 4" square bumper was standard even on the 13' model by 1979. Prior to 79 they came optional and in all kinds of shapes and sizes. "

Thanks Bob for posting this information.

So, if your Scotty or vintage camper doesn't have a bumper, you're not out of luck.   Below are some ideas for bumpers.

My Serro Scotty has a bumper that looks like a piece of angle iron.  I have shown a couple pictures of mine.

Mine looks as though it has been modified with a couple pieces of angle iron bolted onto the frame rails just under the back of the Scotty.  I don't believe it is original? Unless, Scotty did a special order and have never been able to find out.  It would be fairly easy for most to install one similar to mine shown above.

SOME  OTHER  BUMPER  IDEAS

Look around for a parts camper that might have a bumper. If you are handy, a simple bumper could be made and installed.  Search the salvage yards for a bumper that might work. Here's a couple links to on line salvage yards.

round bumperFor those of you who have the round type of bumper on your Scotty or other vintage camper and looking for end caps for it. The following source is compliments of Mark from FLA:

"The black bumper ends on the round aluminum bumpers are protective caps for large electrical conduit or pipe. I emailed the original company, Niagara Plastics, told them of my Scotty, and the sent me 2 new ones(as a sample). Email them with the size and they might continue that tradition - web site:  niagaraplastics.com

Below are some end caps that are offered

Another member commented on the end caps that are mentioned above :
