VIKING of the MONTH
June 2002
"Miss June"
N327CP is a 1973 17-30A owned by Jeff Baker
This Viking is based in Centerville, TN (MRC)
Beauty at every angle!
Jeff writes: "I purchased 327CP in January, 2001 from James Miller at Miller Flying Service after about a six month search. I have been a fan of the Super Viking since I worked as a line boy at my local airport at the age of 15. It took me 21 years to finally be able to afford one."
"After looking I located 327CP. The aircraft had been based at Plainview since the mid 1980's, and had always been maintained by MFS. In 1995 the aircraft was stripped and repainted, and all new interior was installed. Total time is 2700 hrs, 2000 on engine, 600 SMOH. The original engine was replaced with a heavy case in 1993. All work was done by MFS. The aircraft is equipped with the following: Radio #1 KX-155, Radio #2 KX-125, dual glideslopes, four place intercom, KT 76C digital transponder, Globe Speed Cowling, GX 55 Apollo GPS, flush strobes, KN-64 DME, KR-87 ADF, rotating beacon removed, 1990 landing light mod, KMA 20 audio panel (Just Purchased New KMA 24), Century II autopilot. And added after purchase: a KCS 55A Slaved HSI system, stand-by vacuum, M20 air/oil separator, oil filter kit, new DG, new attitude indicator, new turn indicator, vertical card compass, new vacuum pump and gauge, and new mags. I've also had the cowling freshly painted, and the trim stripes have been changed from yellow to gold. We also added a polished spinner and chrome wheel covers."
"I fell in love with this Viking on the first ride. Most of my experience has been in Piper products (Warrior, Arrow, Saratoga), so it took me about 50 hours to feel really comfortable in the Viking. It was definitely different. I have always liked to fly with a light touch, and I have never been one to over control an airplane, therefore the transition was fairly easy."
"We use 327CP some in business, but mostly as a family plane for pleasure going from our home base in Centerville, Tennessee to most of the South Eastern states. After about 100 hours everything else seems to be too boring to fly."
"I hope to meet everyone at a fly in very soon."
