John writes: "After flying approximately 3,000 hours in a '72 Bellanca, N8280R, I flew to Miller Flying Service in Plainview, TX in the fall of 1988 and fell in love with N28055, a 1979 powder puff. We continued our trip to San Antonio then returned with the Bellanca to it's new hangar home in Kenosha, Wisconsin."
"The 1979 has yielded many enjoyable hours of flight to varied destinations including Florida, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic in the southeast; Albuquerque, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles in the southwest; Great Falls, Seattle, Victoria BC, Ketchikan, Denali, Fairbanks, Edmonton, Jasper, Banff and Calgary and many points between in the northwest; Mt. Rushmore, Devils Tower, Winnipeg, Churchill, Manitoba to the north; across Lake Michigan to Pennsylvania (Bellanca Fly-In), New York, Maine, Prince Edward Island in the northeast and down the Atlantic coast."
"Since the wife and I retired we provided the Bellanca with a second hangar home on a private strip near Traverse City, Michigan. Retirement affords us the opportunity to fly wherever, whenever. Flight time averages about 250 hours a year."
"In 1999 it was time for an engine overhaul so I had a factory remanufactured engine installed. Since installation, two (count them two) ADs required the crankshaft to be pulled and returned to the factory. The first time the work (a crack in the crank) was accomplished at Weber's in Alexandria, MN Since the second AD was more urgent-a personal call from Continental (soft metal crank), the work was done in Kenosha."
"In a few weeks we'll be off to Florida and points between to escape the cold and snow!"
