Vision

There are feeding programs available for hungry people. There are clothing programs, and even some lodging for the homeless. These are all very good and they are needed. But in most cases, they are not enough.

Men and women consist of three parts - spirit, soul, and body. God made it that way. Unless all three parts are ministered to, no change is ever permanent.

Victory House is a vision that God gave to Pastor Mel Straight a long time ago. It's a vision that will help to actually change the lives of "Detroit's Abandoned, Abused, and Homeless". In addition to feeding, clothing, and even homing the homeless, they must also be taught to provide for themselves, learning a trade and a skill. If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. But teach a man to fish, and feed him for life.

It is not always a pretty task. It is not always an easy one. But it is a vision that Mel could not get away from. One that has kept him up in the night, and one that he woke up to in the mornings. He has walked and worked the streets of the inner city of Detroit for over 16 years, and has seen the situation first hand. He has seen the homelessness and hunger. But most of all, he has seen the deep hurt which has resulted in the anger, rebellion, and hard heartedness. Only Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit can change such a person. But it is possible. With God all things are possible.

God had burned the vision of Victory House deep within Pastor's heart. And even though he has gone home to be with his Lord, we pray that we will be able to carry out this vision as the Lord leads. Without a vision, the people will perish. And we know that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Faith is our Victory!
