We continually monitor new ventures throughout the U.S. Although, Vencon Management, Inc. does not invest in pre-seed stage enterprises, it continually monitors numerous companies to observe their progress into more advanced growth businesses. In various situations, Vencon provides advice to fledgling entities regarding growth matters as alternatives, regarding facilities expansion financing, site locations, strategic partnering options, and international alliances. For these reasons, Vencon Management, Inc. particularly emphasizes its efforts in "scouting" potential venture investments by maintaining close contacts with technology Incubators. As a participant in the venture capital industry from the genesis of its growth, when it included only a handful of companies, to today when hundreds of venture capital firms are re-examining their missions, Vencon has remained small and focused with regard to its area of technology expertise. Vencon's venture capital activities have been across the entire universe of the industry from minority capitalism, Community Development Corporations (rural venture development), Indian Enterprise, to traditional venture capital. In its venture capital activities, Vencon considers each of the usual categories of venture deals, from "seed" to expansion stage. MODEL FOR NATIONAL INITIATIVES Our Programs have been the model for National Initiatives. Vencon has undertaken initiatives to create nationwide programs to provide for the much needed infrastructure to catalyze the success of technology ventures. In the mid-1970's,Vencon proposed various incubator programs. In 1978, at the White House Conference of Balanced National Growth and Economic development, Vencon urged enterprise zones to be established and venture financing activities. Such activities were eventually put in place during the 1980's in the United States. In the mid-1990's, VMI had a leading role in the creation of the "Silicon Alley" technology foundation in New York. VMI's entrepreneurial enterprise mechanisms have become the model for economic development and growth in other nations around the world. Vencon's analysis of venture prospects is all encompassing in the firm's industry expertise product fields. We evaluate competitors, technology, market share, five-year projections and the underlying accounting, management, legal, as well as other factors.
VENCON'S CORPORATE VENTURE CAPITAL ADVISORY ACTIVITIES
A SPECIAL FOCUS ON SPIN-OUTS A special focus is on spin-outs from corporations, universities, the U.S. Government. Often such "divestitures" include intellectual property and a management team. Commercialization may not have yet begun. We find that the prior investment in such development stage enterprises provides the impetus for commercial success for such early stage ventures.
