What is a Jeeter?

   Jeeter aka Pat

In our family, a Jeeter is a friend who sticks by you through anything. This story started, back in Tom's college days. An older, almost-deaf widow woman, Mrs.Brown, ran a boarding house for students where a young man nicknamed, Jeeter lived. Jeeter was particularly devoted to Mrs. Brown; always doing fix-ups to let her know he cared. Jeeter was also devoted to the bottle, but, he wouldn't drink in Mrs. Brown's home, instead he'd get a room at the local West Side Hotel, never dreaming she knew about his drinking.

One day a neighbor asked Mrs. Brown how she was doing. She replied: "Everything's gone wrong. It's just too hard to get by. Some days, it just gets to be too much for me. I feel like giving up." Her neighbor's answer was: "Oh, don't give up. Just remember, you've still got Jesus." Not hearing correctly, Mrs. Brown came back with "Aw, he don't care. He's up at the West Side Hotel, getting drunk."

When one of us is depressed or out of sorts; "Remember, you've still got Jeeter"; is sure to be said by the other. Tom has called me his Jeeter for years.

"I may not be perfect; but I'm always me!"

Here are a few samples of my writing. The most important thing about these pages is they will be here for my children and grandchildren. My writing is mainly about memories, etc. and I can't think of a better place to have it displayed. Hopefully I will get Tom to join me in writing the tales he tells. He is a raconteur of note.
