From the Kitchen of
Rocky Face Farm

Patricia Douglas Vance

Since I am a Southern lady who has been cooking more years than I care to remember, I decided to make my cookbook about Southern Cooking. I am not a fancy cook. I learned how to cook when I was ten years old. Believe it or not, my Dad taught me how to cook. Mother was ill and there were seven of us living in the home. The rest of the older ones were working and some one had to do the cooking and have supper on the table at a "laboring man's time"; about five in the afternoon.
The first couple of meals was made up of beans, and boiled potatoes. The potatoes were peeled and boiled in water, with butter, salt, and pepper for seasoning. The first thing I made "from scratch" was Daddy's recipe for corn bread.
This cookbook, as are all my pages, is mainly for my children but all visitors are welcome and you are free to download any recipe you find which you like. Please remember this is a first time effort and will improve with age.
