Butterflies Are Free

Butterflies are free;
That's what she said to me.
They flutter and fly, traveling on by.
"Butterflies are free, why aren't I?"
She lived her butterfly lifestyle,
For just a very short while.
Flittering and fluttering; loving everyone.
Now, she's gone; her earthly life done.
Two chips of herself she left behind.
Two blue-eyed sons our hearts to bind.
One is learning to live with the past.
They both are growing up too fast.
How long before they'll say to me;
"Butterflies are free -- why can't I be?"
