I started collecting Barbie over 10 years ago with the purchase of the first Bob Mackie Gold Barbie doll. I have managed to collect over 300 Barbies but sometimes have a love/hate feeling about collecting her. With the entrance of the Gene doll and Madame Alexander's new Cissy and Coco dolls, Barbie has not been able to measure up in quality to these dolls. But that has all changed with the new Silkstone Fashion Model Barbies released this year! What a wonderful doll! She is so much like the original Barbies from 1959, heavy in weight, that vintage face mold and exquisite quality. Until these dolls the porcelain Barbies are the best example of excellent quality in a Barbie doll. They all have stockings, garters, undergarments, well made clothing and are still jointed and poseable. You won't find many boxed dolls in my collection, as I like to debox and display my dolls. I collect dolls, not boxes and unless the box really adds something to the dolls display, they go into storage and the dolls go up on the shelf to enjoy. I purchase first because I love the doll, second for any investment potential.

The silkstone Fashion Model spa giftset! Barbie has a painted head and comes with two wigs. Here she is in the red wig wearing outfits from the set - Love that rubber ducky!
The set as it arrives in the box
The new silkstone Fashion Model poses with an original #4 Barbie.
Here is the FAO Schwarz limited edition silkstone model called Fashion Editor. She has short red hair in the vintage side-part style and a leopard
print skirt/sweater set. On the right is the blonde silkstone wearing the vintage Theatre Date outfit.
Indigo Obsession Barbie is the last in the Byron Lars Runway Collection. She is the most exotic so far, with her platinum hair and dark black skintone. The outfit is also very extreme - blue shantung with a denim look trimmed in rhinestones, embroidery and fur!
Dancing Fire Barbie is new for 2000 and she is fabulous! Long red hair streaked
With orange and yellow, huge lips and smoky eyes and a dress with flames that seem to leap into the air. Another wonderful Barbie for the year 2000.
Here is a new Barbie for 2000, the Manns Chinese Theatre Barbie, the Afro-American version. She is stunning with a new face mold and a satin gown with embroidery and swarovsky crystals.
A group of my Harley Davidson Barbies and the new Harley Ken. On the left is the Madam Alexander Harley Cissette from 1998. On GI Joe's Strike Cycle is the Harley Ken #2 with Biker Baby Belinda in his lap. Harley Barbie #3 and #2 are waiting for their ride.
Another great new Barbie, Rendevous, the second in the Masquerade Series. The first was Illusion Barbie. Rendevous has multi-colored hair and wears black fishnet pantyhose. The gown is all lined and made with excellent quality. Her jewelry hangs on metal chains.
I finally decided to add the Bill Blass Barbie to my collection. I've always liked the pinkish/red short hair on this doll. I was surprised that the gown is very well made and she is wearing pantyhose underneath. Here is a Barbie look-a-like called Coquette by William Owen. She was issued in a limited edition of 1200 in 1995, along with a small bottle of his fragrance. She has genuine crystal earrings and a hand painted face. She is a lovely doll, more delicate than Barbie, but still an 11 1/2" fashion doll. This photo shows three of my porcelain Barbies undressed to show off their wonderfully detailed undergarments. These are the three nostalgic Barbies - Red Flare on the left, Plantation Belle in the center and Gay Parisian on the right. I think the porcelain dolls are made so beautifully, the clothing is top quality/on par with the vintage outfits. The fact that they are wearing complete underclothes underneath their outfits shows a great attention to detail. These dolls definately give you the most for your money. Here is my collection of porcelain Barbies. From the left is the Presidential Collection consisting of the Silver Starlight Barbie and Gold Sensation Barbie. Next are the three nostalgic porcelains - Plantation Belle, Red Flare and Gay Parisian. They are wonderful replicas of the original dolls. I like the way these dolls look together - all in white and silver or with touches of maribou. From the left is a doll by William Owen called Coquette. She is a limited edition of 1,200 dolls and wears Swarovski Crystal earrings. She has a hand painted face and comes with a small bottle of William Owen perfume. She is a more delicately made doll than Barbie, and an unusual edition to any collection. Next is Supersize Barbie from the 70's. She is 17 inches tall and is wearing her original bathing suit, slacks, shoes, crown, necklace and has her original stand. Next is the FAO Schwarz Silver Screen Barbie, then a Barbie wearing a Classique outfit and Snow Princess is on the right. Here are four Barbies in gold outfits. From the left, the Flapper Barbie, the First Bob Mackie Gold Barbie, Gold Jubilee and the Bob Mackie Goddess of the Sun. Two of the Seasons collection. On the left, Spring Bouquet Barbie and on the right, Summer Splendor. These are Direct Mail from Barbie Collectibles. A few of my Bob Mackie Barbie collection.

Here is the new 35th Anniversary Midge Gift Set! I deboxed her and combed her hair into a soft flip, just like the original. The quality is great. Hair is soft, the face is perfect. The swimsuit is a heavier cotton than the original Midge, but still very nice. The gown is made well with snaps, no velcro. Her wrist tag slips off, so you don't have to tear it to dress her. This is a really nice set for $39.95.

Here are three new reproduction dolls and one original 1970 Living Barbie. The 35th Anniversary Midge wears the BMR Green Thumb outfit, then here is the Twist & Turn repro Smasheroo and on the right a Francie reproduction.
