203rd RED HORSE Men

A red horse kneels in front of the 7,000-pound, black granite boulder with the names of the 21 fallen soldiers etched into its polished surface.
Eighteen 203rd RED HORSE men and three Florida Army National Guard aviators perished March 3, 2001, as the 203d members were returning home after completing a two-week, military construction project at Hurlburt Field, FL. The C-23 Sherpa they were riding in crashed in a cotton field near Unadilla, in southern Georgia. (Photo by Staff Sgt. Mark Turney)

Bob Hope

May 29, 1903 - July 27, 2003
Thanks for the memories:
Bob Hope passed away last evening at home.
I remember his coming to Cam Ranh Bay in December
1966. He brought a USO troupe with him, as usual. Almost all of us went to his show down in the Army area and sat on the sand. Most of us heard more than we saw, partly because of the distance to the stage. There was massive amounts of
movie equipment blocking our view as well. The guys who were in the hospital, and able to attend were seated right down front, where they should have been.
I remember a black fellow, dressed as Santa Clause, who managed to work his way down front because of the suit. I saw guys in pole climbing gear, not one but several, hanging off poles to get a better view.
Bob Hope made our lives a little richer by taking time to come see, and entertain, us.

**************
Generations of Americans have been inspired and uplifted
by his service to our troops, love for our country and
incredible humor. Bob Hope gave us laughter..... and now, tears.
