Some of the training that Horsemen received, 1965 at Cannon Air Force Base prior to going to Vietnam with the Civil Engineering Squadron Heavy Repair "RED HORSE". Some of the Triple Nickel Red Horsemen training in the bivowac area in Dec 1965 at Cannon AFB, New Mexico. This tent didn't go so good. It fell back down after being erected. When we were in the field and didn't have a mess hall set up we were issued "C" Rations. Inside the "C" Rations box you would find your daily Accessory Packet like the one pictured above on the left and also a "P38" can opener pictured above on the right. These items were a big part of our field meals. Especially if you smoked, drank coffee, and wanted to open your canned "C" rations This picture was taken at Cannon AFB, New Mexico in December 1965 and shows Triple Nickel Horsemen waiting in line at the Chow Hall Tent. Food is always good when you are in the field. This is a Triple Nickle Group Photo taken at the Red Horse Training Area at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico in December 1965. C-130 that took the Triple Nickel Horsemen to Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. Picture by Bob Gibson.
