THE ANDERSONS The following was done by Charles Ernest Anderson in 1968. I have not yet tried to do any follow up on any of these families. 1. Samuel1 Anderson Sr. was born in Ireland circa 1708. He married Mary (Molly) (Unknown) Anderson. Mary was born circa 1718. Mary died 10 Feb 1796 in Blandford, MA, at 77 years of age. Her body was interred 1796 in Old Blandford Cem., Blandford, MA. Samuel died 17 Feb 1800 in Blandford, MA, at 91 years of age. His body was interred 1800 in Old Blandford Cem., Blandford, MA. "The Anderson tradition is they were Irish-Scots and were caught in the Irish rebellion and were in the Londonderry siege. Samual may have come to America with his parents in 1718, or at some later date to join relatives who came earlier. No record of his first years in the new world have been found. Samuel Anderson Sr.
and Mary (Molly) (Unknown) Anderson had the following children: Second Generation 2. James2 Anderson (Samuel1) was born in Blandford, MA 8 Aug 1756. He married Grace Taggart. Grace died in NY. It is written that Grace "evidently died in Town of Pembroke, Genessee Co., NY. James d. probably in Pittsford Twp., Hillsdale Co., MI about 1846. James died circa 1846 in MI. James served in the Revolutionary War, from Blandford in the Massachuetts Militia a total of ten months, during 1776-1778. James and Grace had nine (9) children, but the names of three are all known at this time. 4 i. Sarah3
Anderson was born in Blandford, MA circa 1781. Sarah died 5 Aug 1797 in Blandford,
MA, at 16 years of age. 3. Samuel2 Anderson Jr. (Samuel1) was born in Blandford, MA 1758. He married Sarah Bennett ?? in Blandford, MA, circa 1787. Sarah died circa 1805 in New Berlin, Chenango Co., MA. Samuel died 23 Mar 1834 in Unadilla, Otsego Co., NY, at 75 years of age. His body was interred 1834 in Pioneer Cem, Sidney, NY. Samuel Junior also served in the Revolutionary War from Blandford Sam and Sarah had seven (7) children, two born in Massachusetts, and the other five (5) born in New York. He and his family were found in the Town of Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., NY for the census of 1790, he did not remain there since he established himself in the town of Norwich before 1796 when he returned to Blandford for the sale of property that owned there and was shown as "Samuel Anderson of Norwich, Co. of Tioga, State of New York", this area was soon incorporated into Chenango County. Samuel sold all his land after the death of his wife and must have financed Augustus in his land ventures. He moved in with Augustus when Augustus married. Anderson was born in Blandford, MA 25 Jan 1788. Zerviah died 11 Dec 1814 in New
Berlin, MA, at 26 years of age. Third Generation 6. James3 Anderson,Jr. (James2, Samuel1) was born in Blandford, MA 9 Jul 1790. James died in Pittsburg Twp., Hillsdale Co., MI. He married Lydia Preston in NY, circa 1820. Lydia was born in VT circa 1802. She was the daughter of John Preston. She married Mr. Holden 1818. Lydia died 1863 in MI, at 61 years of age. Anderson. 8. Augustus Amasa3 Anderson (Samuel2, Samuel1) was born in Blandford, MA 4 Jul 1789. He married Sally Hathaway in Chenango Co., NY, 3 Oct 1816. Sally was born 20 Jan 1796. She was the daughter of Levi Hathaway Jr. and Caroline Leonard. Sally died 11 Nov 1857 in La Porte, IN, at 61 years of age. Sally and most of the family moved to Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., Indiana after the death of Augustus and before 1842. His body was interred 1836 in Unadilla, Otsego Co., NY. Augustus died 23 Sep 1836 in Unadilla, Otsego Co., NY, at 47 years of age. Agustus and Sally moved to the town of Butternuts, Otsego County, NY in late 1822 or early 1823 where they lived until about 1831, being there during the 1830 Census. His father, Samuel Jr. was still living with them during that Census.The last four of their children were born in Butternuts and it is believed they moved there to be closer to Sally's father. When Augustus sold his farm in Norwich, he kept "the burying ground" where his mother, possibly Zerviah, the eldest girl, and Aaron B. are buried. About 1831, Augustus and family moved again to the town of Unadilla where several Ulster-Scots from Blandford had settled and a Presbyterian Church had been established. In 1833, Augustus was assessed for 88 acres of land in Unadilla. His father died there in 1834 and he died there in 1836 as shown in the old Anderson Bible. Augustus Amasa Anderson and Sally Hathaway had the following children: 21 i. Aaron B.4
Anderson was born in Chenango Co., NY 17 Nov 1817. Fourth Generation 24. James Levi4 Anderson (Augustus Amasa3, Samuel2, Samuel1) was born in Butternuts, Otsego Co., NY 9 Mar 1823. He married Betsy Jane Wilkinson in MI ?, 20 Sep 1847. Betsy was born in Ontario, NY 12 Nov 1827. She was the daughter of Samuel W. Wilkinson and Betsy Myers. Her body was interred October 1866 in Patton Cem., La Porte Co., IN. Betsy died 18 Oct 1866 in La Porte Co., IN, at 38 years of age. He married Hannah Burleigh in La Porte, IN, 1867. Hannah was born 1821. Hannah died 1919 in La Porte Co., IN, at 98 years of age. Charles, her step-son, said of her, "She was mighty good to me". She was a very competent housewife and made a good home for the family. She was 98 when she died. His body was interred April 1902. James died 17 Apr 1902 in La Porte Co., IN, at 79 years of age. James went to Indiana in 1836, at the age of 13 In 1847, he brought his
bride, Betsy to the farm. They lost their first two children, one from severe burns. This
child was asleep and Betsy Jane hurried to the spring to get water from the spring for the
household and while she was gone, the baby woke up and crawled to the fireplace and was so
burned, it soon died. Betty Jane died in 1866, leaving James with three children, Emma 16, David 13, and Charles 9. A year later, James married a second time to Hannah. but they had no children. James Levi Anderson and Betsy Jane Wilkinson had the following children: 28 i. Emma C.5
Anderson was born in La Porte Co., IN June 1850. Emma died in La Porte Co.,
IN. She married Marquis Copelan. Emma and Marquis had two sons, but
both died in their youth. Fifth Generation 29. David C.5 Anderson (James Levi4, Augustus Amasa3, Samuel2, Samuel1) was born in Jasper Co., IN December 1853. He married Mary Harriet Anderson in La Porte, IN, circa 1875. Mary was born in La Porte, IN 26 Nov 1851. She was the daughter of Samuel J. Anderson and Abigail M. Line. Mary died 11 Apr 1934 in La Porte, IN, at 82 years of age. David died 4 Feb 1934 in La Porte Co., IN, at 80 years of age. David C. Anderson and Mary Harriet Anderson had the following children: 31 i. Anderson was born in La Porte, IN circa 1876. Rose died circa 1880 in La Porte, IN.
30. Charles Edgar5 Anderson (James Levi4, Augustus Amasa3, Samuel2, Samuel1) was born in La Porte Co., IN 7 Nov 1857. He married Angelina Ellenora Bell in La Porte, IN, 3 Dec 1882. Angelina was born in La Porte Co., IN 15 Jan 1864. She was the daughter of Virgil Hixon Bell and Sarah G. Fail. Angelina died 22 Jul 1917 in Roy, Harding Co., NM, at 53 years of age. Charles died 7 Jul 1928 in La Porte Co., IN, at 70 years of age. Charles Edgar Anderson and Angelina Ellenora Bell had the following children: 35 i. Guy Raymond6
