Looking Into the Eye, Part 2...

This is a radar shot of Tropical Storm Cary, in July of 1984. You'll see more of this "baby storm" when you return to the narrative. Even though the storm is not yet a typhoon, it has a well-developed, 20-mile wide eye. Our airplane is heading northeast. Notice how we can't see anything at the bottom of the scope. That's because the rest of our airplane is blocking out the radar returns!
