Here's a shot of Hurricane Keli in August of 1984. We're about 600 miles southwest of Hawaii, which was in no danger from this storm. In fact, we probably wouldn't have even flown into this hurricane, except for the fact that it was bearing down on Johnston Island, a tiny United States possession near the International Date Line. Above is what we saw on the way to the center of the hurricane.
