To The Ray Family Page

This page will be about Tom's mother and the Ray Family. Actually, it is a tribute to Susan Ray Brumit, Tom's mother. I really did not get to learn a lot about Ms B, as I called her. She didn't like me for many years and we didn't become close until shortly before her death.

The background and pictures were chosen to commemorate her sewing ability. Until she lost the ability to see and manipulate her hands to do so, not a birthday or Christmas passed without Tom receiving a gift from her which was handmade and fit perfectly. I have no idea how she made them fit without a try-on but she did.

Long before quilt kits became widely known and utilized Ms B developed her own quilt patterns and quilt kits. She would make the quilts, then draw the patterns, have them silk-screened on materials, and cut the patterns. She would then box them up to sell and advertised in crafter's magazines as "Aunt Suzie's Quilts". This was only one of the many enterprises she started and ran on her own, long before women were doing this as an everyday thing.
