About the Douglas Clan

The Douglas Clan hails from Scotland. Tom and I learned last summer that the Douglas Clan and the Vance Clan left Scotland about the same time and intermarried. We wondered if we could be distantly related. The grandchildren have been interested in finding out about the Douglases. Since I'm retired now, I thought I might do some research for them. In all my years of working, and raising children, etc I've never had time to devote to this research. I'm going to try now.

    Family Origins
Three Douglas brothers came from Scotland-went in three different directions--Daddy always told me we were descended from Lady Katherine and Earl James Douglas (Black Douglas)
Pappa Douglas came from Beech Grove, TN They lived in Antioch for awhile. Daddy, I believe, was born in Nashville.
    Where they lived

The Douglases supposedly originated in Scotland, lanidng in Philadelphia. Our Douglas forefather came down to Virginia and then to Middle Tennessee. They did not move a lot but due to County reformation it appears so. They have been found on the Census of Cannon, Coffee, Rutherford, and Davidson Couties in Middle Tennessee.

    Tales I've been told

Daddy walked from Louisville to Nashville when one of the brothers died, I believe it was David Eugene. He was born right after Jimmy

When I think of my Daddy, I always think of the song by Holly Dunn (Daddy's Hands) That describes our relationship pretty well and his hands. More to say about this.
