The animals you are about to view are carved and painted by Len J. Wirick. My carvings include carousel animals and other wild animals as well as cigar store Indians and other large wood scultpures. My work has been featured in several national publications and has won awards in many prestigious art and carving shows. Just about any wild animal on any continent can be made in combination with each other as you will see in the following photographs. They can be the complete animal or just the front quarters, this depends on the individual's choice. The amount of display space or the amount you intend to spend would determine the size of the animal. Heads and necks are popular, they give you the satisfaction of your favorite animal and require little space for display.
The carvings are constructed of basswood and the procedures that I use are the same as those used by the masters of the past. The wood is laminated and the bodies are constructed using the "coffin hollow box" method. Individual body parts are carved separately then attached to the body to complete the carving. Each piece is hand finished to the customer's preference.
The wild animals are normally in action poses and look very realistic as they would when viewed in their natural environment. They make a nice display when mounted on pedestals and are attractive complements to any room.
Please feel free to browse through the beautiful sculptures on the following pages and please sign my guest register and share your views and opinions with me.
