Science and Technology Articles

Most of my bylined writings have been about astronomy, physics, space technology, communications technologies and regulation, history of science and technology, and profiles of people and institutions. I've also researched and written investigative special reports, including the events leading up to the breakup of AT&T into the Baby Bells in 1984, the space shuttle Challenger tragedy in 1986, and the sweeping layoffs of engineers in the 1990s. (Editors: Contact me for full clips.)

Since 1970,  some 250 articles I've written on science or technology have been published in dozens of national magazines and newspapers, including
Astronomy, Family Circle, IEEE Spectrum, the Los Angeles Times, the children's magazine Muse, Omni, Scientific American, Sky and Telescope, and Travel & Leisure. Fifteen of them have won top journalism awards.

Since 1972, as a magazine editor, I've acquired and/or edited another 200 articles from scientists and engineers and from freelance writers; created regular departments on science travel, innovations, and technology and the law; and coordinated half a dozen single-topic special issues.

Only a very few articles are available either as PDF files or on other Web sites. Please contact me if you wish to see others.
