A BIT OF HISTORY ABOUT TROOP 50
Provided by Daniel T. Cottone, Troop Advisor
Troop 50 was organized by the Mahwah's Womens' Club
on June 11, 1920, as referenced by Troop Historian, John W. Brisow. That makes the
Troop 83 years old on June 11, 2003.
The Boy Scouts of America was organized on February
8, 1910, with James E. West, as the first Chief Scout Executive. The Boys Scouts, as
a world organization, was started by the original founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell, in
England in 1907.
So Troop 50 came into existence when Boy Scouts of
America was just 10 years old thus dated the Troop as among the oldest in the United
States of America.

Troop 50 is entitled to wear the 80-year
bar, which should be sewed just above the Troop Numeral.
