Camp Daniel Boone, NC

June 17 - 23, 2001

Our 2001 summer camp was a resounding success as the troop again visited CDB. After the traditional stops at Hunter AAF and Sliding Rock, the troop arrived at CDB late Sunday afternoon. During our stay, the first year scouts in the Goin' Great program were able to complete the requirements for their rank advancements, and all scouts were able to earn Eagle-required merit badges in such areas as camping, communication, first aid and emergency preparedness, as well as elective merit badges like canoeing, kayaking, rifle and shotgun. The troop also enjoyed a day of whitewater rafting on the Nantahala river, a visit to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and a dinner at Skeeter's. Our troop also won the coveted watermelon at the SM archery shoot thanks to Dean. The weather was great except for some rain on Friday night which forced the cancellation of the closing campfire, and all campers enjoyed the week in good health thanks in no small part to the new toilets and showers, which just happened to be about 50 feet from our campsite. Our thanks go to the entire CDB staff for a great week, especially JD and Mr. Dickey in Goin' Great and the staff at the shooting range. As always, if anyone would like to share camp pictures (Rene, Mike?), please e-mail them to the address below and they will be added. Have a great summer, everyone!
