FDR Exploits War for Political Gain

History shows that Franklin Delano Roosevelt was far more aggressive in using      ( or exploiting as some would say ) World War 2 as a Presidential campaign issue as President Bush has been in using the current war on Terrorism ( or World War 3 as I call I it ).  Not only did Roosevelt use posters using the “ Uncle Sam Wants You “ Military recruitment theme,  and campaign buttons with slogans such as:  “ V “ for Victory, “ Together we will win this War “  and “ I Remember Pearl Harbor “,  he also gave fiery campaign speeches at the very sight where the Japanese ( or “ Japs “ as he called them ) attacked America at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7th 1941.  In addition,  instead of appearing at the Democratic Convention in 1944 accept his parties nomination for President ,  FDR instead choose to do so from a Naval base in San Diego, CA through a speech carried on radio. For the record, I think it was right for FDR to run for President on his war record just as it is right for President Bush to do the same.  No issue is more relevant to our lives, and for those of future generations.

It seems clear to me that today’s Democrats are only upset that President Bush plans to run his campaign on the most serious and important issue of our time

( the War on Terrorism ) because he  can, and they cannot.
