Getting to CCNY by public transportation from any of the three major
airports takes about 90 minutes; from the major rail or bus terminals it
takes 30-45 minutes. The cost is $2.00-$4.00, except from Newark Airport,
where about $15.00 is required. (Taxis take a bit less time, but not much
less, and cost $35-$50.) For directions to the New York subway system from
major NY terminals, go to the bottom of this page.

Get to the Broadway-7th Avenue subway line and take the 1 or 9 local
toward upper Manhattan and the Bronx. Get off at the 137th Street Station.
When you go up the stairs, you're at the south end of a small triangular
park. Walk to the northeast corner (138th Street, away from Broadway).
Make a right and walk one long block to Amsterdam Avenue. City College is
on the other side of Amsterdam Avenue. Cross the street and continue
straight, most of the way down the hill.
The North Academic Center is on your left. To get in, walk around the
building, keeping it on your right. Go right after the outside staircase,
and walk into the main entrance. Tell a guard at that entrance that you're
here for a Mathematics seminar, and give him the number of the room you're
going to. You'll probably be asked to get a temporary CCNY pass (for which
you need identification).
To get to the Mathematics Department, room 8/133: Make the first left
(with your back toward the entrance), then first right down a hall. Take
an elevator on the right to the 8th floor. From the elevator make a left
and at the end of the hall, another left. Room 8/133, is on your right.
To get to the Topology Seminar, room 6/329: Make the first left (with
your back toward the entrance), then first right down a hall. Take an
elevator on the right to the 6th floor. Turn right from the elevator. Room
6/329 is on the third hall to your left, just after you enter that hall.
To get to 1/511: Make the first right (with your back toward the
entrance), then first left down a hall. Make a right at the end of that
hall, and then a left into another hall in a few feet. Room 1/511 is down
a ramp on your right, a distance into that hall.
Shepard hall is the imposing neo-Gothic building across the next street (Convent Av). Go straight across that street, then make a left and go into the first entrance to Shepard on a walkway to your right. Tell a guard at that entrance that you're here for a Topology conference in room S95 (the Music Recital Room). You will need identification.
DON'T drive to CCNY Friday, unless you already have plans for
parking. Contact Ralph Kopperman a few days in advance; due to damage to
Manhattan Comm. Coll, on September 11, that school is now holding its
classes at CCNY; this has overfilled our parking lot.
Get to Manhattan's West Side Highway (US Route 9A) either the Lincoln
Tunnel (follow signs after exit in Manhattan to West Side Highway N), or
via I95. (If you are on I95 South, just after the intersection with I-87
the road splits; take the right half, to the "last exit in NYC", and
follow signs to the West Side Highway South. if you are on I-95 North,
cross the George Washington Bridge; toward its end look for and follow
signs to the West Side Highway South, 9A.)
Take the 125th Street exit from 9A, and turn away from the river at 132
Street. At Broadway, make a left, and then the next right at 133rd Street.
This street ends in the CCNY parking lot.
After parking, walk back to the entrance, and then make a right turn
on foot, and go north on Convent Avenue about 1/4 mile. After crossing
135th Street, you eventually pass the tall, relatively new Science
Building on your right.
To get to the main entrance of NAC, make a left at the end of the
Science Building; then follow the directions under "inside NAC".
To get to the main entrance of Shepard, continue straight on Convent
Av. (past the small Administration Building) until you pass the first door
to this imposing neo-Gothic building on a walkway to your right. Tell a
guard at that entrance that you're here for a Topology conference in room
S95 (the Music Recital Room). You will need identification.
