Was a PFC (Louis A. Romaine) in the US Marine Corps. Reserves and crossed the equator in 1944, aboard the USS Wharton and discharged from the MB Treasure Island Activities, San Francisco, Calif. Enlisted at New York, NY on 28 Feb 1944 to serve "Nat'l. Emerg." He qualified 'Sharpshooter' and served in South and Central Pacific areas 12 Nov 1944 to 18 Mar 1945. Was in no battles and received no wounds. "Service honest and faithful." Monthly rate of pay when discharged = $54. was paid $118.95.

Excerpt of letter from Edward Romaine to Tony F. Romaine, dated 5 Sep 1994: "My father applied for a job with a large insurance company back in 1930-31 and was rejected. He told us that the surname was changed to 'Romaine' and he reapplied with the same company. Yes, he was hired and the interviewer told him he had been initially turned down because they thought the original name indicated that he was one of those 'greasy kinds.' Family legend also has it that my uncle Al encountered the same experience with the NYC Transit Department! How strong our forefathers had to be!"
Excerpt of letter from DonnaMarie Raftery to Tony F. Romaine, circa Oct 1995: "... My grandpa - Louis Alyosius Romaine, known as "Bob" he was very good in sports, especially track and stickball. He played the outfield & was so good with his throwing arm, that he was nicknamed "Ruby Bob" - 'Ruby' because he wore a ruby ring and 'Bob' after Bob Meusel, a baseball player with the NY Yankees.
Excerpt of letter from DonnaMarie Raftery to Tony F. Romaine, circa Oct 1995: Did you know he dated my mother's mother (Carmella J. Cirillo) before he met Josephine -- my mother's mother's family Cirillo and the Romagnano's knew each other in Italy and both familys first settled in Camden.
