STORIES:

--There's a snake, indiginous to Italy, that grabs its tail with it's mouth and forms a hoop so it can roll down hills fast. They called it a 'Hoop Snake.'

--There's a water fountain in the center of Postiglione, and the water was very cold. It was SO cold - travelers who stopped there to drink, had to scoop out a cup and sit down and wait awhile before they could drink it.

(When he would tell these stories and when people laughed in disbelief, he would get frustrated and say, "But it's the TRUTH!")

--Joseph's, grandfather (Giuseppe) took care of his daughter-in-law and grandchildren, on his farm, while his son Angelo got settled in America. He was the bandmaster for the town of Postiglione. During that time and while he was playing in the band, he asked his grandson Joseph, to turn the pages of the music for him while he played his instrument, the cornet. Joseph, about 8 years old then, noticed that his grandfather had his eyes closed while he was playing, so when he turned the pages, he turned several pages at a time. Then when grandpa opened his eyes, to read the music, he got confused.

John M. Kasperson, a dear friend, lived with his family for many years. He appears in many family photographs and is buried next Joseph.

He had a part-time job selling shoes, door-to-door.
