EPSFONTS.EXE

EPSFONTS adds PostScript Type1 fonts to Score's EPS files, eliminating the need to download those fonts to the printer before printing. It also can concatenate a series of EPS files into a single PS file that can then be converted into a PDF file in Distiller. The PDF file will retain the original order of the EPS files, something that is often difficult or tedious to do manually.

The program is very simple to use:

The program then does the following:

It is lightning-fast.

The fonts are added to the EPS files just *below* the "header" at the top of each EPS file. Each font begins with the comment "%%BeginFont" and concludes with the comment "%%EndFont", so the included fonts can be easily distinguished from the Score-generated EPS code.

Backup copies of the original EPS files are generated before any editing is performed. The back-ups by default use the extension ".$$$", but the program can be made to use any valid character sequence for back-up extensions.

The output files retain the original filename of the input files (so X01.EPS remains X01.EPS).

If the fonts have already been included in the EPS files, perhaps because you are (accidentally) reprocessing the same EPS files again, those fonts will *NOT* be added again. The program is thus intelligent; it will only add fonts that are not already present. And as stated above, it only adds the fonts that are required (prescribed by the "trailer" at the end of the EPS files.)

If corresponding PFB files for the fonts required for your EPS files cannot be found, the program will indicate that during processing. The names of all fonts added to each EPS file are typed to the screen during processing, along with any relevant error messages.

EPSFONTS.EXE is a 32-bit program, and requires Windows95 or higher to operate. (It will not run in Windows 3.11 or earlier.) It is a console program, just like PAGE, JUST, and SCORLAS, but can be run from a DOS-box within Windows.
