'Oh You Ghost' served as a literal escape. I wanted to be alone and silent.
The performance took place outside of Zilkha Gallery on the campus
of Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. More specifically, I located myself directly
beside the windows of the gallery so that people inside would be able to
view the project. I positioned
my platform in the desired location, laid down,
and asked two friends to staple a large white sheet over
me (completely encasing the structure). It felt like living
inside of a collapsed tent.
I had been fasting for two days prior to the performance. I
brought water, jars, and a pillow. I also brought a knife
so that I could cut through the casing and end the performance. I
did not plan the duration of 'Oh You Ghost' but realized after two days and two nights that the project had lapsed an effective course.
