I conceived 'Requiem for a Character in the Dream' in 2004 for Susan
Bickford's annual 'In My Backyard' art festival in Yarmouth,
Maine. The piece consists of an impromptu soundscape accompanied by movements and foot stomps. At the end
of the performance I unceremoniously drop my guitar to the stage.
'Requiem for a Character in the Dream' was unrehearsed. The only
planned aspects of the performance were the tuning of my
guitar and the sound and volume of its amplifier. Any
particular noises that I created were in accordance with
the relationships I began to notice between my instrument and the
sources of its sound. As a sound would transpired I was
continually adapting my fingering and my posture in order
to deliver its counterpart.
The performance lasted about 15 minutes.
